Passes Away at
Shelter CareMartha Allen, 82, formerly of the Dallas City and LaHarpe areas, and a former Quincy resident, died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday (July 2, 1983) in the Hancock County Shelter Care Home in Augusta.
She was born March 20, 1901, in Greely County, W. Va., a daughter of Creed and Martha Darnell Reed. She married Walter Alley Nov. 26, 1927, in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death. She then married Thomas Allen Sept. 19, 1945, in Quincy. He died Aug. 21,1963.
She is survived by one son, Walter Lee Alley of Detroit, Mich.; a daughter, Edith Alley of Williamburg, Va.; two brothers, Sherman Reed of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Charles Reed of Lomax; and three grandchildren.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Augusta.
Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Banks and Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, by the Rev. Charles Mitchell. Burial was in Pilot Grove Cemetery near Burnside.
A memorial was established in her name for the Lomax Ambulance Service.
