MARY ALEXANDER

March 1, 1940 -- Aug. 19, 2002

Mary Alexander, 62, of Canton, Mo., formerly of Quincy, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, Mo.

She was born on March 1, 1940, in rural Carthage, the daughter of R. Lloyd and Ruth Edgecomb Lovell.  She married Michael Alexander on Sept. 13, 1986.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Alexander of Canton; her mother, Ruth Edgecomb Lovell of Canton; one daughter, Beverly (Kent) Powers of LaGrange, Mo.; one son, James (Jessica) Rockhold of Hamilton; two sisters, Ruth (Lawrence) Henson of Canton and Wanda (Richard) Boyer of Ferris; one brother, James "Butch" (Ruth) Lovell of Ferris; seven grandchildren, Kiara, Dalton, Kendall, Elisabeth, Evan, Erica and Ethan.

She was preceded in death by her father; a granddaughter, Jaime Nicole; and her dog, Precious.

She graduated with the Carthage High School Class of 1958.  She was of the Christian faith attending Life Tabernacle Church in Canton.  She also attended John Wood Community College in Quincy, receiving her degree as a licensed practical nurse.  She worked for Good Samaritan Home in Quincy from 1984 through 1993.  Before she became ill, she had worked as a nurse at Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.  She had many wonderful friends from Lewis County Nursing Home that made sure her last few days were special.  She enjoyed fishing, sewing, yard sales and reading the Bible.  She enjoyed practical jokes and writing stories.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, after 3 p.m. with family meeting friends between 5 and 7 p.m. at Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage with Brother Paul Kinney officiating.  Burial will be at McKay Cemetery at Burnside.

Memorials have been established for her grandchildren or the Lewis County Nursing Home.
