Honored For 86th
Birthday SundayThe family and friends of Kemper Akers of Plymouth, formerly of Denver, enjoyed a picnic at the Jaycee Park across from the swimming pool in Carthage Sunday, July 16. The event was to celebrate the 86th birthday of Mr. Akers which was July 15.
Those attending besides the guest of honor were Mr. and Mrs. Clint Akers and Bob of Blandinsville; Mrs. Virginia Young of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Akers and Ann of Rushville; Mr. and Mrs. Prentie Akers, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cludray and Colette and Miss Scharlene DuBois of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Akers, Bill, Terry and Donny, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Akers, Jr., Grayling and Jeffrey of Bowen, Mr. and Mrs. Garry Wear and Kevin of Loraine; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Webster and Joni of Quincy; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Akers and Joyce, Mrs. Helen Marshall, Mrs. Jimmy Marshall, Scotty and Larry Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Eichhorn and Lori Linn, Mr. and Mrs. W. LIFE MARCH 29James Kemper Akers, 92, Passes
Away in Bushnell; Funeral
Sunday in BowenJames Kemper Akers, 92, highly regarded retired farmer, departed life Friday, March 29, 1968, at 4:50 a. m. in the Elms Nursing Home at Bushnell after a long decline in health. Mr. Akers was cared for a number of years in the Thomas Rest home of Plymouth.
Funeral at Bowen
Funeral services for Mr. Akers were held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday at the Neiser Funeral home in Bowen, many loved ones and friends attending. The Rev. Chas. C. Coonce, pastor of the Bowen Christian church, officiated.
Music for the final rites was provided by Mrs. Evelyn Vance, Mr. and Mrs. William Rampley.
Burial was in Bowen cemetery. Pallbearers were George Akers, Jim Marshall, Frank Akers, Jr., Wm. Akers, Donald Akers, and Terry Akers. The many floral tributes were lovely.
In Memoriam
James Kemper, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Akers, was born in the state of Virginia July 13, 1875. He had long been a resident of Hancock county, Bowen and Denver areas, where he successfully engaged in farming. In later years he also operated a service station.
Mr. Akers was married to Docia Bishop, Sept. 27, 1896. This union was severed years ago in her demise.
He was a member of the Christian church of Denver, and Denver Lodge 464, A.F. & A.M. Mr. Akers was ever upright and honest. He had an optimistic outlook on life and was very patient during his decline in health.
Surviving are five sons, Prentie of Plymouth, Frank of Bowen, Carl of Carthage, Glen of Rushville and Truman of Bowen; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Marshall of Carthage; a half-brother, Clinton Akers of Blandinsville, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Four children, Roy, Edna, Joe and May are deceased.
