Funeral services for James Floyd Akers, 33, were held Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. in the Bowen Methodist church, the Rev. Clarence Young officiating. Music was furnished by Roger Veach and Mrs. Carlin Morton. Pallbearers were Willie France, James Foutch, Jack Heflin, Charles Cassel, Floyd Fincham and Floyd Huff. Burial was in Bowen cemetery.
Mr. Akers died Saturday, May 10, in Veterans' hospital in Iowa City. He had been in failing health for two years and had been in the hospital for the last four weeks. He had previously been in the hospital many times.
Born in Denver, Oct. 29, 1924, he was a son of Ervin and Pearl Akers. He attended Bowen high school. On Dec. 27, 1945 in Bowen he was married to Jean Rand who survives.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas for two years, and was a member of the American Legion and the Bowen Methodist church.
He was employed as a district manager for the Moorman Manufacturing company of Quincy with whom he had been associated for 10 years.
Surviving with the widow are a son, Randy, eight years old; four sisters, Mrs. Jack Cramer of Bowen, Mrs. Albert Quivy of Paxton, Mrs. Robert Ramsey of Bowen and Mrs. John Lummis of Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Among those from out of town attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. John Rand, Blanche Rand, and Tom Rand all of Carthage, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rand, Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Rand, and son, Richard, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Balzer all of Mendon.
