Mr. and Mrs. Frank Akers Sr., of Bowen, Ill., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an Open House Sunday afternoon, Feb. 3rd, in the American Legion Hall in Bowen from 2 to 4 p.m.

Mr. Akers and the former Ethyl Belknap were married in her parents home in Bowen on Feb. 6th 1930, by her father the late Rev. Charles Leroy Belknap.  Her mother and the late Joe Akers, brother of the groom, attended the couple.

Mrs. Akers is the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Charles L. BelknapMr. Akers is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Kemper Akers of Denver, Ill.

The event is hosted by their children Mr. and Mrs. Frank Akers Jr., West Point, Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Mary) Cludray of Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Akers, Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Don (Kay) Webster, Golden, Mr. and Mrs. Garry (Janet) Wear, Loraine, Don Akers, Hamilton and Terry Akers, Chicago.

Their grandchildren are Grayling Akers, Quincy, Jeff and Rita Akers, West Point, Brad Cludray and Colette (Cludray) Smith of Plymouth, Larry, Brenda and Linda Akers, Plymouth, Joni and Mitch Webster, Golden, Kevin, Regan and Darin Wear, Loraine, Brent and Brian Akers, Ft. Madison, Iowa, Dawn Akers, Hamilton and Sheila Kay Akers, deceased.  The couple have 2 great grandchildren, Danielle and Dustin Smith, Plymouth.

Mr. Akers is employed by Heinold Hog Market of Bowen.  On Saturday he is weigh masters at Farmers Livestock Sales of Coatsburg.  Also he has been an Independent Truckers for many years.

Invitations are extended through the paper to relatives and friends.  The couple request no gifts.

Frank Akers

BOWEN -- Frank Akers Sr., 87, a retired livestock dealer, died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 10, 1988) in his home in Bowen.

Mr. Akers was born Jan. 1, 1902, in Christianburg, Va., a son of James Kemper and Docia Bishop Akers.  He married Ethyl Belknap on Feb. 6, 1930, in Bowen.  She died Oct. 7, 1987.

Mr. Akers who for many years ran his own livestock operation, was a member of the Denver Christian Church.

He is survived by four sons, Frank Jr. of West Point, Bill of Plymouth, Donald of Hamilton, and Terry of Chicago; and three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Mary) Cludray of Plymouth, Mrs. Don (Kay) Webster of Rushville, and Mrs. Garry (Janet) Wear of Loraine; one brother, Glenn Akers of Rushville, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Akers was also preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta by the Rev. Terry Rankin.  Burial will be in the Bowen Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Chili Library in Bowen.

Frank Akers Sr., 86, a retired livestock dealer, died at 12:05 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 10, 1988) in his home in Bowen.

Mr. Akers was born Jan. 1, 1902, in Christianburg, Va., a son of James Kemper and Docia Bishop Akers.  He married Ethyl Belknap on Feb. 6, 1930, in Bowen.  She died Oct. 7, 1987.

Mr. Akers was a retired truck driver and livestock hauler and was a member of the Denver Christian Church.

He is survived by four sons, Frank Jr. of West Point, Bill of Plymouth, Donald of Hamilton, and Terry of Chicago; and three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Mary) Cludray of Plymouth, Mrs. Don (Kay) Webster of Rushville, and Mrs. Garry (Janet) Wear of Loraine; one brother, Glenn Akers of Rushville, 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Akers was also preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Frank Akers Sr., 87, of Bowen died Saturday, Dec. 10, 1988, in his home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1902, in Christianburg, Va., son of James Kemper and Docia Bishop Akers.  He married Ethyl Belknap in Bowen on Feb. 6, 1930.

He was a member of the Denver Christian Church and ran his own livestock operation before retiring.

Survivors include four sons, Frank Jr. of West Point, Bill of Plymouth, Donald of Hamilton and Terry of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Mary) Cludray of Plymouth, Mrs. Don (Kay) Webster of Rushville and Mrs. Garry (Janet) Wear of Loraine; one brother, Glenn Akers of Rushville; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday in the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta with the Rev. Terry Rankin officiating.  Burial was in the Bowen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Chili Library in Bowen.
