Mr. and Mrs. Frank Akers Sr., of Bowen, Ill., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an Open House Sunday afternoon, Feb. 3rd, in the American Legion Hall in Bowen from 2 to 4 p.m.

Mr. Akers and the former Ethyl Belknap were married in her parents home in Bowen on Feb. 6th 1930, by her father the late Rev. Charles Leroy Belknap.  Her mother and the late Joe Akers, brother of the groom, attended the couple.

Mrs. Akers is the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Charles L. BelknapMr. Akers is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Kemper Akers of Denver, Ill.

The event is hosted by their children Mr. and Mrs. Frank Akers Jr., West Point, Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Mary) Cludray of Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Akers, Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Don (Kay) Webster, Golden, Mr. and Mrs. Garry (Janet) Wear, Loraine, Don Akers, Hamilton and Terry Akers, Chicago.

Their grandchildren are Grayling Akers, Quincy, Jeff and Rita Akers, West Point, Brad Cludray and Colette (Cludray) Smith of Plymouth, Larry, Brenda and Linda Akers, Plymouth, Joni and Mitch Webster, Golden, Kevin, Regan and Darin Wear, Loraine, Brent and Brian Akers, Ft. Madison, Iowa, Dawn Akers, Hamilton and Sheila Kay Akers, deceased.  The couple have 2 great grandchildren, Danielle and Dustin Smith, Plymouth.

Mr. Akers is employed by Heinold Hog Market of Bowen.  On Saturday he is weigh masters at Farmers Livestock Sales of Coatsburg.  Also he has been an Independent Truckers for many years.

Invitations are extended through the paper to relatives and friends.  The couple request no gifts.

Ethyl L. Akers

BOWEN, Ill. -- Mrs. Ethyl L. Akers, 73, of Bowen died at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 7, 1987) in Blessing Hospital.

Mrs. Akers was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Danville, the daughter of Rev. Charles L. and Ethyl Jones Belknap.  She married Frank Akers on Feb. 6, 1930, in Bowen.  He survives.  She attended Bowen schools and was a member of the Bowen Christian Church and the Augusta Senior Citizens.

Survivors also include four sons, Frank, Jr. of West Point, Bill of Plymouth, Donald of Hamilton, and Terry of Chicago; three daughters, Mrs. Mike (Mary) Cludray of Plymouth, Mrs. Don (Kay) Webster of Rushville, and Mrs. Garry (Janet) Wear of Loraine; a brother, Dave Belknap of Quincy; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a sister and two grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hamilton Funeral Home, Augusta, by the Rev. Terry Rankin.  Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery.  Visitation will be after noon on Friday and Saturday until the time of services in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Blessing Hospital Dialysis Friends for Kidneys Fund.

Mrs. Ethyl L. Akers, 73, of Bowen died at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1987 in Blessing Hospital, Quincy.

Terry Rankin.  Organist was Norma Beckett and pallbearers were Ronald Vollbracht, Ronald Moormann, Gene Wood, Gerald Ramsey, Ray Horney and Dale Mecum.  Interment was in Bowen Cemetery, Bowen.  Visitation was after noon on Friday and Saturday until the time of services in the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by a sister and two grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday in the Hamilton Funeral Home, the Rev. Terry Rankin officiating.  Burial was in Bowen Cemetery.

A memorial to the Blessing Hospital Dialyses Unit Friends for Kidneys Fund has been established.
