Christian Church for
Ervin Akers

Funeral services for Ervin Akers, 59, were held Wednesday afternoon, August 15 at 1:30 o'clock in the Christian church with the Rev. John Botkins, of Denver, officiating. Mrs. Evelyn Vance and Mrs. Elizabeth Sowder sang, accompanied by Mrs. Marguerite Rampley.

Casket bearers were: Carl Veach, Dale Veach, LeRoy Veach, Thomas Vance, Harold Akers and Bill Vance.  Burial was in Harmony cemetery.

Ervin Taswell Akers, son of Floyd and Catherine Duncan Akers, was born October 10, 1891, in Floyd County, Virginia, and passed away August 11, at 9:45 p. m. in the Veterans Hospital, at Dwight, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 1 day.  He had been a patient in the hospital for two weeks.

He attended school in Virginia and came to Illinois with his parents in early manhood.

On August 6, 1919 he was united in marriage at Carthage, Illinois with Pearl Smith, of Bentley, Illinois.

After marriage he was engaged in farming, retiring because of ill health in 1931.  Since that time he has lived in Denver and in the Bowen community for the past 13 years.

He is a veteran of the first World War entering in 1917 and serving 18 months in Europe after his basic training at Camp Dodge, Iowa.  He received his discharge in January, 1919.  He has been a member of the American Legion.  He attended the Christian church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Rosa, two brothers, Herman and Letcher, and one grandson, Steven Quivey.

Surviving are his widow, one son, James of Astoria, four daughters, Mrs. John Lummis of Quincy, Mrs. Robert Ramsey, Mrs. Jack Cramer, of Bowen, and Mrs. Albert Quivey, of Paxton; six grandchildren, Cheryl and Ronnie Cramer, Rodney Ramsey, Michael Lummis, Rand Akers, and Cindy Jo Quivey; one brother Shelor of Grundy Center, Iowa, and four sisters, Mrs. Harve Veach, of Bowen, Mrs. Albert Bruns, of La Belle, Missouri, Mrs. William Vance and Mrs. Ivan Vilander, of Denver; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Ervin T. Akers
Of Bowen Called
To Final Rest

Ervin T. (Shorty) Akers, 59, of Bowen, passed away last Saturday night at 9:45 in the veterans hospital at Dwight, Ill.  He had been suffering with a heart ailment for a number of years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Bowen Christian church, conducted by Rev. John M. Botkin, of Denver.  Burial was in Harmony cemetery.

Mr. Akers was born Oct. 10, 1891, in Floyd county, Va., a son of Floyd and Catherine Duncan Akers.  He had lived in Bowen for the past 13 years and attended the Christian church.  He was a member of the American Legion.  He was married to Pearl Smith August 6, 1919, in Carthage.

Surviving are the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Jack Cramer of Bowen, Mrs. Albert Quibey of Paxton, Mrs. Robert Ramsey of Bowen and Mrs. John Lummis of Quincy; a son, James Akers of Astoria; a brother, Shelor Akers of Gramby county, Ia.; four sisters, Mrs. William Vance and Mrs. Ivan Vilander of Denver, Ill., Mrs. Harve Veach of Bowen and Mrs. Albert Brun of La Belle, Mo., and six grandchildren.

Mr. Akers was an uncle of LeRoy Veach, local Kiefer store manager.
