Hie Agnew Dies of
Injuries from Blast

Hie Agnew of 222 South Fourth street, Keokuk, died Monday night at 10:30 o'clock in St Joseph hospital as the result of burns suffered in an explosion at the Keokuk Electro-Metals plant on May 25.  He had been in the hospital for four weeks.

He was the second man to die as result of the explosion in which four were burned.  Raymond Soule's death occurred on May 29 but the other two have since recovered.

Born on April 25, 1895, he was 52 years old at the time of his death.  He had been a resident of Keokuk for six years.  The body will remain at DeJong's Funeral home.

Agnew Rites
Held Thursday

Funeral service for Hiram Agnew of Keokuk whose death occurred Monday evening in St. Joseph hospital as a result of burns sustained four weeks ago in an explosion at the Electro-Metals Co. plant were held in the DeJong Funeral home at 2:30 p. m. Thursday with burial in Oakland cemetery.

He was born April 25, 1895, at Basco, Ill., the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Agnew.  He was reared near Basco.  He went to Keokuk six years ago where he was employed at the Electro-Metals plant.  He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.

He is survived by three sons, August, Ozie and Amos of Hamilton, and six daughters, Huberta of Rock Island, Mrs. Bernice Campbell of Carthage, Ill., Wilma, Ruth, Martha and Marjory of Hamilton.  One daughter Nona, has preceded him in death.

He has six brothers, Gay and John Agnew of Hamilton, Henry of Basco, Ill., Fred of Kewanee, Albert of Battle Creek, Mich., and Albert of Louisiana.  Three sisters, Hanna of Wisconsin, Anna of Nebraska, and Louise of Montana, also are living.

The Agnew family lived in Carthage for a number of years.
