20 Mar 2002 Hood River News

WILLIAM S. RAYBURN, JR. William S. Rayburn, Jr. passed away March 11, 2002, in Calif. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Anderson's Tribute Center. A reception will follow. William Rayburn was born in McKinney, Texas, Aug. 26, 1925, and came to Hood River, Ore., in 1930. He has considered Hood River his home from that time forward. He graduated from Hood River High School. In September 1943 he entered active duty in the Air Force. He graduated from the Air Force Cadet program in April 1945 as Flight Officer. He was discharged in October 1945. He had an unrestricted commercial license and logged many hours of private pleasure flying. In 1945, he and Jeanne Lemley were married in Denver, Colo. He attended Augustana College and UCLA Extension School and was active in business his entire life. He was best known as business analysis, troubleshooter and entrepreneur. Bill was active creating and operating several corporations of three major Southern California restaurants. He retired in 1980 at the age of 55. Surviving are his wife Jeanne, sons Steve of Portland, Ore.; Tim of Seattle, Wash.; grandson Jack of Long Beach, Calif., and numerous relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ouida Nunamaker. Private vault entombment will be at Idlewild Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge or Friends of the Library c/o Anderson's Tribute Center 1401 Belmont, Hood River, OR 97031.
