According to information supplied by Barbara WARD, from her reading of this book: There was quite a write-up about Jesse A DEES, born 11 Jun 1808 in Abbeyville Dist., South Carolina who married Naomi BOOTH, born 4 Mar 1809. Jesse DEES parents were Robert GILLAM and Naomi DEES, and, from the article, Jesse retained his mother's maiden name of DEES. It stated that the subject: Jesse A had just 4 and 1/2 months of schooling, and lived in St. Louis in his 21st year. DANIELS, 86, of Benton died Monday evening, Dec. 22, 2003, at the Benton HealthCare Center. She was born in Franklin County on Aug. 23, 1917, the daughter of David and Ella (PERRINE) DEES. She was married to Nelson DANIELS, and he preceded her in death. Mrs. DANIELS also was preceded in death by her parents and by one sister, Agnes ANDERSON. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at the Masonic & Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton with the Rev. Woody WILSON officiating. There will be no visitation; those attending the service are requested to go directly to the cemetery. The Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements.

She was born Nov. 5, 1945, in Massillon, Ohio, the daughter of Jack and Nettie Qualls Short. She married William "Shammy" Whalen in 1968 in Virden. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shannon Whalen. Mrs. Whalen was a homemaker and had worked for the secretary of state's office (no capital letters in newspaper). Survivors: husband, William; three sons, Scott (wife, Dana) Whalen of Thayer, Shawn (wife Monica) Whalen of Virden and Shane M. Whalen at home; four grandchildren; four sisters, Debbie (husband Don) Fetter of Canton, Ohio, Connie (husband, George) Stelle of Springfield, Linda (husband Earl) LaFollette of Fort Myers, Fla., and Barbara Prior of Pawnee; and several nieces and nephews. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home in Virden, the Rev. Brent Williams officiating. Burial: Virden Cemetery.
