1800-1853 Frieden Lutheran Church Book
Records translated by Henry Reeves and book produced by David R. Koontz

Friedens Family History Researchers are forever indebted to Mr. Reeves and Mr. Koontz for their contributions in enabling genealogy research of these old German records. Had it not been for this book, I would never have been able to prove the connection between the anglicized surname Cocklereece and the German surname Kachelriess -- nor would I have found the birth record of my 2ggf!

It's hard to imagine the many hours Mr. Reeves devoted transcribing this work. To illustrate the difficulty, I've scanned the birth record of my 2ggf David Cocklereece, who appears on line 6 on page 37 of the original record book:

The translated entry in the Reeves-Koontz Book looks like this:

A complete copy of these original German records can be found in the 1802-1848 Records Book, which is available for purchase from the Friedens Church Office . The church does NOT have a copy of the Reeves-Koontz 1800-1853 Frieden Lutheran Church Book, but one can be found at the Greensboro Public Library, Guilford County, NC.

The following pages have been prepared using OCR technology -- which is not quite perfect... By comparing these with the Koontz pages, I've attempted to find all conversion errors and correct them. If you believe there are errors, please let me know the page and line number, so I can verify and/or correct as necessary.

I hope you will find many ancestors in these records!
