Charles Vail writes, "My wife's grandfather lived on the west end of Long Island but lost his property and moved to the state of New Jersey but had his mill at Goanses burnt and other property destroyed by the British in the Revolutionary War. And when I knew the old man he lived in Paterson, New Jersey and was a very aged man and that was in 1815. I think his name was Abraham and he had four sons--Jerry, Abraham, Christopher and William. Christopher and William I knew. He also had 3 daughters--Sally, Caty, and Rebecca, the mother of my wife. My wife's mother is dead and so is all her brothers and sisters." Charles Vail also mentions speaking with "Catherin Cannon sister," who lives in Riverhead, whose mother was also a Brower, but from a different family.1

The line of descent is from Domine Everardus Bogardus and Anneke Jans

Wyntje Sybrandts; through their daughter Blandina, who married Theophilus
Ellsworth; and then through their daughter Mary Ellsworth who married

"The children of the first marriage were Maria, Richard, Charity and

He settled in Patterson (sp), New Jersey. On Jul 20, 1820, he married
Margaret Van Horn, who was born July 20, 1800, and was the daughter of John
    Van Horn".
"Of the marriage there were the following children: - John, Richard,
Abraham, Elizabeth, Henry, Ellsworth and George Vanderhoof Brower".
"George Vanderhoof Brower - born October 18, 1840. Married in 1871,
Mary Ellen Tompkins, born in 1843 (or 1848) - Died in 1907"
"Children: Genevieve Brower, born Oct. 4, 1872; Edith Daly Brower, born
Jan. 27, 1874; George Ellsworth Brower, born Jan. 22, 1875; ; Ernest Taylor
    Brower, born Jan. 3 (or 8), 1877".

    The "Copy of Affidavit" follows:

    "State of New Jersey)

Be it remembered that on the tenth day of March in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty, before me, Philemon Dickerson,
notary public, in and for the State of New Jersey, appeared Abraham Delaney,

present at the Battle on Flat Bush Hill in 1776 under Captain Rogers. That
Joshua Drake was Colonel and Generals McDougal and Putnam were Commanding
Officers. This deponent further saith that he was acquainted with Abraham
Brower and Jeremiah Brower, that they owned a flour mill, house, barn and
work house, situated a few miles from Brooklyn, on Long Island. That when
the army retreated from Flat Bush, the mill house, barn and work house, and
a boat loaded with flour laying near the mill, all belonging to the said
Abraham and Jeremiah Brower, were burned by the rifle company, and as this
deponent was then informed, by the order of the commanding officers, and
this deponent further saith that the two stacks of wheat belonging to the
said Abraham and Jeremiah Brower, were burnt at the same time and in the
same manner. And this deponent further saith that the said Abraham and
Jeremiah Brower were absent from home at the time, and employed in the
service of the United States. This deponent further saith that he is
seventy seven years old and resides in the County of Orange, in the State of
New York, and now receives his pension under the late law of Congress, and
    further saith not"
