- Willem Adamsz Brouwer was baptized on 5 March 1651 at Reformed Dutch Church, New Amsterdam; sponsors Willem Beeckman, Johannes Marcus, Maria "int houte paert" ("the wooden horse," the name of a tavern), Lysbeth Criegers.3
- He married first before 14 September 1679 Elizabeth Simpson, daughter of Pieter Simpson and Grietje (?).2
- Willem Adamsz Brouwer married second before 1702 Marthe Boulton.2
- Willem Adamsz Brouwer possibly married third Neeltje Thomas in 1712/13 (the only other known Willem Brouwer, of marriagable age, in the New York City area at the time, was Willem3 son of Jacob2 Brouwer and Annatje Bogardus. That Willem3 was, in 1712/13 and 1714 married to Maritje Van Noordt, and both of them were living with children baptized in 1712 and in 1714).4
- Likely the third son of Adam Brouwer and was possibly named for Adam's friend, Willem Bredenbent, who was also from Cologne. Willem was married at least twice, and probably three times. He lived in Gowanus until at least 1708, and had property that bounded the property of his brother-in-law, Thomas Knight. He may have removed to Staten Island or possibly Westchester County. Of all of Adam Brouwer's sons, Willems descendants are probably the least understood.
- Willem Adamsz Brouwer appeared on the assessment list of at Breukelen, Long Island, in September 1676 assessed at 18, with 1 poll.5
- He witnessed the baptism of Vrouwtje Pieterse Brouwer , daughter of Pieter Adamsz Brouwer and Petronella Uldrickse Kleyn, on 14 May 1682 at New Utrecht, Kings Co., New York, (sponsors William Brouwer, Elizabeth Brouwer (Elizabeth Simpson, wife of William Brouwer) recorded at Flatbush.).6
- Willem Adamsz Brouwer witnessed the baptism of Josias Drake , son of Josias Janszen Drats and Aeltje Adamse Brouwer, on 28 May 1682 at Amersfoort, Kings Co., Long Island, New York, (sponsors Willem Brouwer, Elizabeth Brouwer (recorded at the Flatbush Church)).6
- Willem Adamsz Brouwer and Elizabeth Simpson were members of at Reformed Protestant Dutch Church, Flatbush, Kings Co., Long Island, New York, The list of members living at Gowanus is undated, however, it does state that Johannes Christoffelsz died on 22 Nov 1684, so it was recorded at some time after that date. Their entry reads, "left- Willem Brouwer and wife Elisabeth Brouwers- returned."7
- William is named in his father's will dated 22 Jan 1691/92.8
- Willem Adamsz Brouwer appeared on the census of 1698 at Town of Brookland, Kings Co., New York, as Willem Brouwer, with a household of 1 man, 1 woman, 2 children, and 2 apprentices.9
- In an indenture dated 7 May 1708, Willem Brower and Martha, his wife, of Brooklyn conveyed to Cornelius Sleght of Newtown, Queens County, a house and garden spot in Brooklyn, "containing six rods in the front to the street and seven rods in the reare bounded easterly by the street or highway in the front, in the reare, westerly by George Hansons land, northerly by Thomas Knight's land and southerly by the lott of said William Brower, bought of Cornelius Vandewater. William and Martha Brower each signed with their mark.10
- T.G. Bergen, in 1878, (NYG&BR 9:127) claims that William married 1st, Aeltje or Elsje ___, married 2nd Elizabeth Simpson, and 3rd, Marte ___. Hoffman in "Brouwer Beginnings" (TAG 23:204) states that "Several authorities credit him with a first wife Aeltje (certainly refering to Bergen) but no record has been found to substantiate such a claim." In a footnote Hoffman adds that "Willem Brouwer has also been credited with a wife Angenietje. This is based on the fact that Willem Brouwer and wife Angenietje appear as sponsors at a baptism in the Brooklyn church on Jan. 15, 1699 (Brkl.:175). This is the only instance in which she appears and is probably a mistake. However, we have no records of any children bp. between 1687 by Elizabeth and 1702 by Marta, so that he could have married Angenietje between these years."
- In addition to the above mentioned references to other wives, Hoffman states: "Willem Brouwer and his wife were listed among the members of the Breukelen church, but they removed at a later date as follows from a note added to the membership entry. He was listed in the Kings County Census of 1698 with a family of 1 male, 1 female and 2 children as a resident of Breukelen. In 1704 and 1709 he was mentioned as a constable of Brookland (Breukelen). A Brkl. deed dated 5-7-1708 mentioned Willem Brouwer and Martha h.w. of Brookland."2

- Willem Brouwer was born on 14 March 1766 at Dutchess Co., New York, He is recorded as the third son in his father's will. A William Brewer of Fishkill in 1800 is between the ages of 26 and 44, giving a birth range of 1756 to 1777. Neither a record of birth or baptism has been found.3
- Also known as William Brower.4
- Named in his father's will dated Sep 1777, after eldest son Nicholas, and David. William received the lots of ground which his father purchased from Barent and Elizabeth St__ (page torn) in the City of Albany, and also the remaining half of two lots which had been devised to eldest son Nicholas.5,6
- In 1789 a survey of the "Hayadarosses patent," was taken for Jeremiah Brower, Lot No. 6 of the 13 General Allotment containing 209 1/4 acres. A chart and survey of the Hayadarosses patent and partly divided by Jeremiah, Jacob, william and David Brower, was made by Seth Baldwin, Surveyor. (I have not identified the location of the Hayadarosses patent).7
- He is possibly the William Brower, who in an indenture dated 17 Feb 1795, William Brower of Westchester County, New York conveyed to Matthew Mamikle(?) of Charlton, Saratoga Co., New York, land in Saratoga County, the fourteenth allotment, lots no. 6 and 7. Witnessed by Mathias McKenny and Henry Yates, Junr.4
- Possibly the William Brewer recorded on the 1800 census in Fishkill, New York with a family of 2 males under 10, 1 male 26-44, 1 female under 10, 1 female 26-44. Other Brewers in Fishkill in 1800 are Nicholas, Jacob, and Cornelis.8
- His will was dated on 26 June 1849 "I William Brower, of the city, county and state of New York, yeoman, being weak of body but by God's grace sound of mind and memory..." To eldest son Caleb Pell Brower, the 1/8 part of my estate being wheresoever it may be found. To my second son Jeremiah Brower the same or one equal eighth part of my estate. Then my son Daniel Brower I also give and bequeath another eighth part of my estate. Then my son Jacob Brower I also give an bequeath another eighth part of my estate. My son John Brower I also give another eighth part of my estate. Then my son William I also give and bequeath another equal 8th part of my estate. They each paying their proportionate part of the money to prosecute for the same. The other 8th part I desire to be equally divided between my 3 daughters namely Caroline, Amy and Sarah or the respective heirs of their bodies forever. Names as executors his two sons Daniel and John Brower. Witnessed by Caroline Manning, Cornelia Manning, Robert Pitcairn.9

- William Brouwer was born circa 1727 at Gowanus, Brooklyn, New York.
- He married Meclitta van Duyn, daughter of Gerrit van Duyn and Altie van Nostrand, at New York City, New York, in December 1752 (license dated 20 Dec 1752).1,2
- William Brouwer died before 16 December 1783.
- Surname is also spelled Brower.3
- Second son. He lived at Mill Hook and the Meadows in Brooklyn and later removed to Rombout Precinct, Dutchess County, at about the time of the American Revolution. According to Hoffman (TAG 24:100) this family is to be found in Fishkill, New Hamburgh, Wappinger Creek, and New Hackensack.
- He appeared on the census of 1738 at Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, as one of the two male children in his father's houshold under the age of ten.4
- On 24 Aug. 1751, Isaac Sebring and Catharina his wife made an agreement to dig a ditch from Gowanus Bay to the East River, under certain restrictions, with, among others, Jury Brower and Abraham Brower of Gowanus. Wit: William Brower.4
- The will of "Jeury Brower of Gowanus in the township of Brookland, miller", dated 18 Sep 1754, leaves his whole estate in the township of Brooklyn to his three sons, Abraham, William, and Adolph in equal shares, with Abraham to recieve £5 as his birthright. The three, Abraham, Wlliam, and Adolph, are names as executors.4
- On 20 Mar 1760, "Jurrey Brower of Gowanus, in the township of Brooklyn in Kings County on Nassau Island in the Provence of New York, miller" conveyed to "Abraham Brower and William Brower sons of the said Jury Brower of the same place," for £300, a parcel of land "situate lying and being in the township of Brooklyn...bounded easterly and southerly by the road or Kings Highway that leads from Flatbush to the ferry Northerly by Jacobus Degraw northwesterly to said Jurry Brower and Jacob Van der Hoven westerly to Jacobus Du Re Vois containing about twenty two acres..."5
- He witnessed the baptism of Willem Brouwer , son of Jeury Brouwer and Elizabeth Van de Water, on 27 November 1760 at Reformed Dutch Church, New York City, (sponsors Willem Brouwer and Margita Van der Water j.d.).6
- His will was dated on 4 September 1782 probated 12 Jun 1786, calls himself "William Brower of Rumbout Precinct, Dutchess County, farmer, being weak of body but of sound mind and memory...". Names his wife Mattya, son Jeremiah to receive 10 shillings for his birth right & "to my real and personal estate upon Long Island and Staten Island I allow to be sold and fifty pounds a piece to be given to my children viz: Garrett Brower, William Brower, Letty Brower & Cornelius Brower in lieu of fity pounds given to my son Jeremiah some time ago." The remaining "part of said estate" to be divided among all the children (Jeremiah, Garret, William, Letty, Cornelius). Names as executors, his wife Mattya Brower, sons Garrett and William Brower, and Abraham Hoagland. Witnessed by Francis Bogardus, John Ackerman, and James Wills. On 18 Nov 1786, Garrett and William Brower executors of the will of William Brower deceased appeared before Judge Thomas Treadwell, City of New York "duly sworn to the true execution and performance of the said will."7,3
- Despite being called, "of Rombout" on his will, William Brouwer does not appear anywhere on the Dutchess County tax lists from the period, and his will does not mention any property in Dutchess County, but does mention property on Staten Island and Long Island. William and his family were most likely in Rombout as it was a safe haven during the Revolution. Their property on Long Island, the site of the family mill, saw the most intense fighting during the Battle of Long Island in August 1776. It appears that William died before having the opportunity to return home.
