  • Dirck Stratenmaker was born before 1620.
  • He was in New Netherland and had land at Communipaw before 1643. On the morning after the "Communipaw Massacre," of 25 Feb 1643, Dirck and his wife went to the scene to plunder. She was carrying her son Jan and they were accompanied by some Englishman and soldiers. The soldiers had to leave and Dirck ignored their warnings about returning Indians. Shortly after the soldiers heard a shriek, and returned, finding Dirck mortally wounded and his wife dead. Their son, Jan, was raised in New Amsterdam by Claesie Teunis.1
