  • Also known as Elizabeth Cook.4
  • She appeared on the census in 1871 at Union Workhouse, Minister, Isle of Thanet, Kent, England, as Elizabeth Cook, "daughter," age 8, scholar, born at Brighton, Sussex. She is followed on the sheet by Sarah Cook (age 6, b. Rye, Sussex), David Cook (age 4, b. Canterbury, Kent), Marian Cook (2, b. Minster, Thanet), Sarah Horn (14), William Baily (27), William Solly (63) and Mary A. Meddeman ("able bodied", married, age 41, Fish salesman's wife, born at Mile-End, London). The preceeding sheet (p.17) ends with (lines 24 and 25) Thomas Cook (14, "bastard son", scholar, b. Kensington, Middlesex) and Ellen Cook (12, "bastard daughter", scholar, b. Newport, Hants).4
  • She immigrated in 1875.7
  • Elizabeth died of a cerebral thrombosis. She died at 30 Strathallen Park, Rochester, New York, while her "usual residence" at the time of her death was 26 Phelps Ave., Rochester.6
  • Elizabeth was born, Elizabeth COOK, a daughter of Thomas Cook and Mary Ann Lambeth. Her five siblings, Thomas, Ellen, Sarah, David and Marion, were also children of Thomas Cook and Mary Ann Lambeth. Their mother, Mary Ann Lambeth, had previously been married to William Muddemmen (Mudiman) and there is no evidence that they had any children. It appears that after Thomas Cook either died, or left the family, Mary Ann reverted to using the married name of her first husband, MUDIMAN. She can be found on the 1871 census of England and Wales with the surname MEDDEMAN, while her children (recorded with her) are named COOK. The children came to adopt the surname as used by their mother (MUDIMAN) as their own.
