- He was active in the Canadian Rebellion, and with his brother Harry and their familes had to flee Canada for the U.S. Wiltsie and Harry married sisters and they originally settled 18 miles southeast of London, Ontario, where they spent two years, after which time they gave their home to their eldest brother Jacob in consideration for his taking care of their parents in their old age. Wiltsie returned to Canada after ammesty was granted, living there for ten years, seven of them in Montreal. He spent much of the remainder of his life in the United States, except the last year of his life which was spent in the "oil regions" of Canada.5

- A Gabriel Manney appears on the tax list at Rombout Precinct (Dutchess Co., NY) in the years 1766-1768, and 1771-1773.5
- The Colden Mansion, a large house about six miles west of Newburgh, New York on Rt. 17K was built by James, Wines, and Gabriel Many in 1767 (the date stone reads, "J. W. and G. Many 3 BRS 1767").6
- It is believed that Gabriel Manny moved to Montgomery Co., New York between 1771 and 1774. His daughter Mary is said to have been born (1774) in Amsterdam, New York.7
- On 25 Mar 1801, Gabriel and his wife, Mary, of Amsterdam, New York, sold a lot on King St., Rye, Westchester Co., New York to Joseph Merritt of Harrison, New York, and Jotham Merritt of Greenwhich, Connecticut. The parcel had previously been part of the estate of James Merritt (d. 4 Jan 1801) whose property was devised to his brothers and sisters, Mary being one. When Joseph Merritt died (will proved 20 Dec 1809) he left "moveable property" now in possession of "my father and mother" to his sister, "widow Mary Manna."3
- His will was dated on 6 January 1807 names his son, Benjamin, to be general heir and executor, and to "pay sums of money to his other children and provide for the support of his wife Mary during life or widowhood."3

I believe that there were several other children, at least one dau and prob. 3 boys but don't know their names. William dies sometime between 1820 and 1830 (I find his wife Margaret living with her dau. Catherine on Broome St in NYC). I find no record of him in the death registers of NYC..
