Enlisted for six months in 1780 under Capt. Hinman aboard the privateer Marquis Lafayette. His pension app. states that he lived at Cambridge, New York for seven years, then at Cayuga Lake for twenty years, then moved to Frenchtown (now Monroe), Monroe Co., Michigan.1

  • "Burgis Drake was an early settler at the Widow Miller Place at Black. He was the father of Jesse R., Ebenezer, Franklin, Isaac and James. He died in the '20s and was survived by his wife, Hannah, a number of years."3
  • Burgis Drake signed a petition in Bradford Co., Pa. in 1819 but is not found there on the 1820 census. C. F. Heverley in History of Sheshequin, names five sons for Burgis, yet the 1800 and 1810 census only records four males under 10 and under 15 respectively. In addition the 1810 census shows him with three females who are likely daughters who have not been identified.
