- Father*: Jörgen Woll b. b 1688

- Dirck Woll was born on 31 December 1707 at Lauwen Point (later Teller's Point), Van Cortlandt Manor, New York.
- He was baptized on 29 February 1708 at Lutheran Church, New York City, New York; sponsors Johann Vielt and Chatarina his wife.1
- He married first before 1744 Maria Morgan.1
- Dirck Woll married second at Old Dutch Church, Kingston, Ulster Co., New York, on 7 July 1753 Ann Kerk.1
- Also known as Richard Wool.2
- Dirck Woll witnessed the baptism of Derrick Wool , son of Mattys Woll and Elizabeth Cummins, on 24 January 1744 at Reformed Dutch Church, New York City, (sponsors Derick Wool and Magdalena Wool, wife of William Nazareth).3
- Derick Wool and Magdalena Wool, wife of William Nazareth, were sponsors fro Derick, son of Matthew Wool and Elizabeth Cummins in Jan 1744. Derick Wool and his wife Anne Kerk were sponsors on 10 Feb 1754 for Robert, son of Matthew Finnex and Mary Joyns at the New York Dutch Church. Richard Wool, felt maker, was admitted Freeman of New York City 3 Feb 1746/1747. He evidently moved to that section of Rennselaerwyck called Brunswick (now Brunswick, Rensselaer Co., New York) for when his daughter married David Herbert on 25 Sep 1765, the New York Dutch Church entered her as "young girl from Brunswick now living in New York." David Herbert is called "widower from London." Brunswick was settled before 1760 with German and English but existing records of the Gilead Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brunswick begin in 1777 and no Wool entries have been found. During the Revolution, Brunswick was strongly Loyalist, and after Burgoyne's failure many families went to Canada, few ever returned. Perhaps Richard Wool's family was one. "No trace of Richard Wool has been found after 1754."2

- He married first circa 1747 a wife (name unknown) (this being presummed on the basis of son Ellis being born prior to the marriage of Jacobus Woll and Mary Given. If so, her family name may have been Ellis).3
- Jacobus Woll married second on 14 July 1749 Mary Given, daughter of John Given and Margaret (?).1
- Jacobus Woll died between 6 February 1805 and 2 August 1805 at Schaghticoke, Rensselaer Co., New York.
- Also known as James Wool.
- His will was dated on 6 February 1805 "James Wool of Schaghticoke," probated 2 Aug 1805, names his wife Margaret, grandsons James Wool, son of Robert Wool, and Benjamin Wool son of James Wool Jr. Executor Samuel Canfield. Witnesses Christopher Sawyer, Amos Osborne and John J. Francisco.4
- James Wool, laborer, was admitted a Freeman of New York City on 6 Dec 1757. He appears on the city poll list of 1761. He removed to the Schaghticoke section of Albany Co. sometime before the British attack on New York for on 29 Mar 1776, he and his wife Mary Givings were sponsors for Amy, born 1771, daughter of Jurry Francisco and Marye Mandevile, and baptized that day at the Schaghticoke Dutch Church. The census of 1790 puts him in Pittstown, Rensselaer Co. with a household of two males over 16 and two females. It is likely that he lived in Ulster Co. as a young man, removed to New York City about 1757, and finally to Schaghticoke. The biographer of his grandson, General John Ellis Wool states that he was a well-to-do farmer.3

- Jeremiah Woll was baptized on 21 July 1720 at New Rochelle, Westchester Co., New York.2
- Also known as Jeremiah Wool.2
- He was baptized as Jurgen.2
- "Was probably the "Jurgen" baptized in 1720." There is no English equivalent for the Swedish name Jorgen. It may be assumed that his parents named him the Swedish Jorgen, not the Dutch Jurgen or Jurrien. The Dutch and Lutherans entered in their records Jorgen Woll as Jurrien or Jurgen Woll or used one of the diminutives Jurry, Yurry, etc. The Wools of the second generation married into Scotch, Scotch-Irish or Welsh families. Jurry (or Yurry) is closer to Jerry (Jeremiah) than to Julian or George. Jeremia Wool gave his age as forty when he enlisted on 22 Mar 1760 in Capt. Water's company of Richmond, New York. He gave his birthplace as New York, height five feet eight inches, dark hair, dark eyes. On 12 May 1763 a commitee reported to the Provincial Legislature on the petition of Jeremiah Wool and others, evidently former soldiers, who asked for 5,000 acres in Albany Co. They land desired lay east of the Hudson and north of the Battenkill (Washington County). Bond was offered by Johannes Quackenbos of New York that the land would be settled by ten families within three years. Jeremiah Wool, hatter, b. New York, age 50, enlisted 3 Aug 1776 in Capt. Samuel Clark's co. of State troops selected from the militia of Ulster Co. to serve until 31 Dec 1776. He was five feet six, dark complexioned, with black hair and eyes. From 21 Jul to 28 Jul 17__(prob 1777) Jeremiah Wool, private served in Capt. Stephen Case's co. under Col. Jonathan Hasbrouck (Ulster Co. men) at Fort Montgomery. That he had dropped six years from his age is understandable (ages on the Revolutionary War rosters are notoriously unreliable). He is not to be confused with Capt. Jeremiah Wool, son of Matthew Wool (his nephew).2

Jörgen Woll1,2
b. before 1688
- Jörgen Woll was born before 1688 at Wiborg, Sweden (now Finland).
- He married Aeltje Matthyse Brouwer, daughter of Matthys Adamsz Brouwer and Marietje Pieterse Wyckoff, at New York City, New York, on 22 April 1707 (Banns April 20,21,22, Lutheran Church) "at the house of Mr. Johann Viet. Jurgen Woll y.m. from Wilborg, Sweden and Altje Brower y.d. of Robanes in this province."3
- He came to New York City, about 1700 from Viborg, Finland (at the time Finland was under Swedish rule). Jurgen was a Swede. The Wolls lived at Teller's Point, Van Cortlandt Manor when their first child was born. By Jan 1716 they were living in the Highlands of the Hudson, possibly on the west side of the river. When their seventh child was baptized in 1719, they were in New Rochelle, New York, where they remained until at least 25 May 1736. They probably returned to New York City, as his wife Altje was buried at the Dutch Church there. No record of Jurgen's death or burial has been found. Both the Dutch and Lutheran church records usually spell the name as "Woll" in the first generation. By the second generation the spelling in usually "Wool."4

Sadly, I saw the posting several months after it had been posted. Fortunately, the person who posted the info did transcribe the entries. This may have the only known clue to Aaron's parents in-law. I have come to think that Aaron & David's wives, both Woodwards, may not have been siblings, but perhaps aunt & niece or first cousins once removed, given the difference in ages."
