- [S1443] Lilly Martin, "Brouwer/Brower/Brewer Research," e-mail message from Martin, Lilly (unknown address) to Chris Chester and et al, 8 Jan 2007, "George Brouwer: I am going to guess this is the brother of Lawrence Brower, as detailed above. In the Nov 1818 congressional petition, filed by Mary Brower, maiden name Losier, widow of Abraham Brower, s/o Abraham, s/o Abraham, s/o Adam, she lists the children of Jeremiah Brower, she says that Jeremiah Brower is dead, and he was the brother of her own dead husband Abraham.
I have the 22 pages which are photocopies of the ORIGINAL documents, which the National archives sent to me. The copies are very good, and I studied them last summer.
Mary said that Jeremiah Brower had 7 children, but she only listed the names of 6 children, meaning perhaps one of them was dead prior to Nov 1818 when she filed the petition.
She named the children as follows:
Lawrence Brower
George Brower
Sarah (Brower) Vachter
Charity (Brower) Tidemon
Anna (Brower) Van Cleve (m. Benjamin Van Cleve)
Rebecca (Brower) Shannon (m. John Shannon)". Hereinafter cited as "L. Martin e-mail 1-8-2007."

- He appeared on the census of 3 August 1870 at Martin Twp., Allegan Co., Michigan, as Harry Walker, age 59, born in Vermont, a farmer, with real estate valued at $6000, personal estate at $1325. - A biography of Harry Walker can be found in Portrait and Biographical Record of Kalamazoo, Allegan and Van Buren Counties, Michigan (1892). Unfortunately the article gives an extremely incorrect account of Harry's maternal grandfather, Jeremiah Brewer, stating, "Jeremiah Brewer, was also a brave soldier in the Revolutionary War, and he sacrificed his life for the cause, dying from the effects of a wound caused by a ball from an enemy's musket, while he was fighting at the front in one of the hotly-contested battles of the war." None of this is true as is evident from the actual records that Jeremiah Brewer left behind. Jeremiah was a Loyalist, living at Newtown, New York in August 1777. He was captured by Patriots during the Battle of Bennington, and although he eventually escaped, he would not sign any oath or articles denouncing the British Crown and pledging allegiance to the American cause. Jeremiah left for what he believed was Canada in about 1786, and became one of the first settlers of Highgate, Vermont. He lived until 1822 and clearly did not die of wounds from a musket ball during the Revolution.1
