While as a resident of Goshen he enlisted in the winter of 1777 and served various times, eight months and twenty-four days in total, as a private in Capt. John Jackson's and David Swezy's Companies, Col. Benjamin Husted and Cooper's New York Regt. He was allowed a pension on 13 Feb 1833.1,11
- He appeared on the census in 1840 at Goshen, Orange Co., New York, as David G. Drake, with a household of 1 male 10-15, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 80-90, 1 female under 5, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, , 1 female 40-50.12
- On 12 September 1840 Codicil to will of 22 Jan 1831. All advances made to said children since my will was written are to be accounted for and deducted from what each was bequeathed by my executors. Also, since one executor is deceased and another moved from the area, I now appoint my friends Ebenezer Foster and Oliver B. Houser as executors. Witnessed by Wm. L. Foster, Michael C. Denton.13
- On 14 June 1850 Ebenezer Foster, one of the executors for the will of David G. Drake, petitions the Orange County Surrogate's Court, asking for the will to be proved. Probate scheduled for 5 Aug 1850, ordered to appear are: Sarah Rhodes, James Holbert and Susan his wife, Phebe Dains, David H. Drake and George W. Drake all of Chester in Orange County; Joseph Drake of Warwick, Orange Co; Frances Holbert, and Luther Meacham and Hannah his wife of Binghamton, Broome Co., New York; Clarissa Knapp of Centreville in St. Joseph's Co., Michigan; Abigail Egbert of Milford in Kosciusko Co., Michigan; Jonah Cooper and Emily his wife of Canal Louisville in Coshocton Co., Ohio; Calvin Rhodes and Mary Jane his wife of Middletown, Susquehanna Co., Pennsylvania; and John Smith and Frances his wife of Wantage, Sussex Co., New Jersey, heirs at law and next of kin of David G. Drake of Chester, Orange Co., New York.13
- Will proved on 5 August 1850 The proving of David G. Drake's will is lengthy as each witness was cross examined by attorneys for his daughters Hannah and Susan. Each witnessed was questioned as to the sobriety of David G. Drake at the time he made both his will and codicil. Apparently David G. Drake had a reputation as a heavy drinker, often intoxicated for sustained periods of time. All witnessed testified that he was sober at the time the will and codicil were written. Ebenezer Foster testified that David G. Drake was married twice, and that his second wife was living at the time the will was written (22 Jan 1831). However, she is not mentioned in the will and no provisions are made for her, and according to her gravestone she died in 1829, at age 45.14
