Claes de Graaf1

b. 4 August 1709
  • Claes de Graaf was born on 4 August 1709 (date as per Pearson, not confirmed).1
  • Claes de Graaf is claimed as a son of Claas de Graaf by Jonathan Pearson in Genealogies of the Descendants of the First Settlers of the Patent and City of Schenectady from 1662 to 1800 (Albany: J. Munsell, 1873), page 55. He gives a birthdate of 4 Aug 1709, which would be twelve years after the believed death of Claas de Graaf. Pearson does not give a source for the date of birth, or for his placement in the family of Claas de Graaf. No record of baptism can be found in the published records of either the Reformed Church records at Schenectady or Albany. In 1734 a Claes de Graaf was witness to the baptism of Wilhelmus, son of Abraham de Graaf and Rebecca Groot. This witness, however, may be Claes de Graaf, bapt. 25 Dec 1706 at Schenectady, son of Jesse de Graaf and Aeltje Akkermans.
