  • He appeared on the census on 8 August 1850 at Orangetown, Rockland Co., New York, as David V. Brouer, age 34, born in New York. A capitalist. Real estate valued at $700. In the household are his wife Catherine, and daughter Mary E.3

A farmer. In the household are his wife, Catherine Brower, age 60; Josiah R. • It appears that David Brower was an illegitimate son of Maria Verbryck. His baptism record only records his mother, yet he is given the name, David Brower. It was not uncommon for single mothers to name their illegitimate children for the father, and the David Brower (b.1795) living at Orangetown at this time, would be a likely possibility as a father for David Brower, son of Maria Verbryck.
