  • ECM, I, pp.169-175, records the trial of Peter Groenendijcke for the seduction of two young girls, Annetje Blanck and Maria de Lanoy, promising to marry both of them. Both girls testified that they were pregnant by Peter Groenendijcke. Annetje appeared with her father Jeuriaen Blanck Sr., her brother Jeuriaen Blanck Jr., her sister Katherine Blanck, and with Albert Bosch, son-in-law of Jeuriaen Blanck, all testifying on her behalf. Maria de Lanoy appeared with her brother Pieter de Lanoy, with her mother, with Anneke Romers, and with Jeuffro Philips as witnesses on her behalf. Peter Groenendijcke appeared with his attorney, Mr. John Sharpe, and was brought into court in the custody of Mr. Allard Anthony. The case was heard 18 April 1673, and the court found that "Peter Groenendijcke was culpable of a very great crime in debauching two daughters of honest and virtuous parentage under ye pretext of marriage. And it being made manifest that he had gotten them both with child and each of them having made their complaint and sued to be married to him according to his promises to them: We do find that having falsified his faith to both, he received by his allurements, the court doth order and award that the said Peter Groenendijcke shall pay or cause to be paid to Annetje Blanck the sum of 150 Beavers, or the value in penalty, and the like sum of 150 Beavers more or in value peltry to Maria de Lanoy and shall pay also for his misdomeanor and breach of the law a fine to his Majesty of the sum of seventy-five Beavers or the value afore specified." The two children, once born, were baptized on the same day, each given the name of Cornelis. Peter Groenendijcke apparently paid his fine to Annetje Blanck and subsequently married Maria de Lanoy.2
