- Mary Elsworth witnessed the baptism of Abraham Brouwer , son of William Brouwer and Mariah Helm, on 19 June 1785 at Dutch Reformed Church, Claverack, Columbia Co., New York, (sponsors Abraham Brewer, Maritje Ellsworth).5
- Mary Elsworth was living in 1818 at Paterson, (then Essex Co.), New Jersey.
- On 25 Nov 1818, Mary Brower, widow of Abraham Brower deceased, and on behalf of the descendants of Jeremiah Brower deceased, petitioned the U.S. Congress (Committee of Pensions and Revolutionary Claims) seeking renumeration for losses incurred in August of 1776, when the house, barn, mill, and other property belonging jointly to Abraham and Jeremiah Brower were destroyed during the Battle of Long Island. The claiments were listed as "Mary Brower, widow of Abraham Brower deceased...Lawrence Brower, George Brower, Sarah Vachter, Charity Tidemon, Benjamin Van Cleve and Anna his wife, John Shannon and Rebecca his wife, heirs of Jeremiah Brower deceased." The petition was rejected on 30 Nov 1818.6
- Hoffman in his series of articles titled Brouwer Beginnings (TAG 23 & 24, 1947-48) placed Maria Elsworth as the second wife of Abraham Brouwer (1726-1797) and placed Maria Losier as the wife of Abraham Brouwer (1739-1816). Careful analysis of the will of Abraham Brouwer (1726-1797), the 1818 Congressional Petition filed by the widow of Abraham Brouwer (1739-1816) and the names of both couple's offspring have led to the conclusion that Hoffman had the two Marias reversed, and in actuality it was Maria Elsworth who was the wife of Abraham Brouwer (1739-1816), while Maria Losier was the wife of Abraham Brouwer (1726-1797).

I seriously doubt that there were two Rebecca Ellsworth's of the same approximate time period who each married an Abraham A. Brower and an A. Brewer, respectively, each with no children, as stated in the manuscript I cited by Harriet Stryker-Rodda. The marriage date of "A. Brewer" (as stated in the manuscript) to Rebecca Ellsworth" on 1 Sep 1791, I agree, was probably to Rebecca, daughter of Thomas. I have two sources for this marriage: (1) Records of the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Flatbush, by Josephine C. Frost, Vol. 2, p. 22, which states the name as Abram Brower to Rebecca Elsworth on Sep. 1, 1791 "at Flatlands"; and (2) the manuscript cites "journals of John Baxter of Flatlands, Long Island and his son Garrett", 6 Vols., by H. Stryker-Rodda, cop., 1995 for the Long Island Historical Society, Brooklyn, NY". Quite frankly, I don't know who the parents are of this "Abram" Brower nor if there were others (and who their parents might be) by the names of "Abraham A. Brower" and/or "A. Brewer", who would have married Rebecca Ellsworth - - one of which would no doubt have been (Abram) who married the daughter of Thomas. (I'd really like to see this second source). Incidentally, I guess you know that Kenn Stryker-Rodda and his wife Harriet were well known professional genealogists (both now deceased). I used to correspond with Kenn.". Hereinafter cited as "Wm. - He married Rebecca Stillwell, daughter of Thomas Stillwell and Catrina Duryea, at New Utrecht, Kings Co., Long Island, New York, circa 1733.2
- Also known as William Ellsworth.2
- Harriet Mott Stryker-Rodda (1988) states the following regarding William Elsworth (my notes in italics): "Little is known of William Ellsworth. He lived in New York City for a time, and after his marriage was at New Utrecht during a period from which records are missing. He was on Staten Island where at least two children were baptized, and was in Brooklyn in 1790. Tradition states that he was a Loyalist during the Revolution but was too old to serve. "Four of his children married children of Jeury Brouwer and Elizabeth Hilton" (H.M. Stryker-Rodda incorrectly states the mother as Charity Stillwell, and this statement that four children from each family married appears to be incorrect as well). Tradition has it that the two families were very close."2
