- Catherine is named in her father's will, listed last among the daughters. (Cornelia is not named in her father's will dated 17 Sep 1777, although she was baptized on October 1st of that year).5
- Note*: 5
- It appears that Nicholas Brouwer's daughters, Cornelia and Catherine, are one and the same. Catherine is not named as a daughter of Nicholas Brouwer and Sarah Drake by Martha Pitcairn (who would be her niece). Martha does mention Cornelia Brower and states that she married James Tarrant. However, another document refers to "Catherine Tarrant." Catherine is named in her father's will (1777) while Cornelia is not. In a letter from Robert Pitcairn to "Mr. Prince," he refers to the six daughters of Nicholas Brower, namely Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Lany and Catherine. ( Another possibility may be that Cornelia died at a young age, and Catherine, still young herself, then was given her older sister's name). It is noted that no baptism record for Catherine has been found, while a baptism record for Cornelia does exist.3,6

Hoffman (1947) states that the position of Cornelis within the Brouwer family genealogy is yet to be determined. He is possibly a son of Cornelis Brouwer and Hannah Hilton. According to DAR Lineage records he was born in Wappinger's Falls, New York, and served under Capt. (Nicholas) Brower during the Revolution. However, Cornelis does not fit into the Nicholas Brouwer (Sr.) of Wappinger Falls, later Albany, chronologically. This family, for now, seems to be the most appropriate fit.. Over the past many years I have heard from at least 12 others who have claimed that this Jane Brouwer was the daughter of Sybrant
Brouwer and his wife Sara Webber- - Sybrant being the son of Jacobus Brouwer and Anna Bogardus. I had never confirmed this connection, of course, and had advised each one that this Jane was more likely in the line of descent from one of the other brothers of Jacobus - - probably Nicholas. When I received the abstracted data from the Supreme Court case I referred to in my e-mail of Feb. 25, 2007, Subj: "Family of Nicholas BROWER".. that was when I first learned that Nicholas and Jannetje Colyer had a son Nazareth - - and thus also the more complete family of Nicholas and Jannetje
as I had outlined. I do not know the dates of birth or baptism of the children of Nazareth Brouwer and Ann Rozell, except that of Cornelius who was born 9 Nov 1730, who married Mary Archer.
I can also advise that there is an excellent lineage from Nazareth Brower Hill and Catherine Edwards in Volume II - Part I, of "Loyalist Lineages of Canada", published by the Toronto Branch of The United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada, 1991, pp. 513-515. From the 12 other correspondents on the lines of descent from Thomas Benjamin Hill and Jane Brower, they had only indicated continuing descendants through their children Eleanor and Nazareth.". She found a summary of the case at the Wake Forest University Law Library: 57 U.S. 247, 16 How 247 (1853). That they were the parents of Jemima Turner, that Jemima Turner and Cornelius D. Thorp were the parents of Peter Thorp. Joseph went to live with his grandparents Edmund and Hannah Turner when he was 15, and lived with them for six or seven years. His grandfather died in 1806/07 and his grandmother was "child-like" before and after his death. Bogardus Collection, Anneke Jans and Everardus Bogardus Descendants Association, Wilmington, Ohio. Privately printed. This work contains errors, among them the false account of Anneke Jans descent from William of Orange. This account had been proved a fantasy long before 1988, and its inclusion in the reprint edition is unfortunate. The account of Pieter Adamsz Brouwer is also in error, and there may be other errors with the earlier Brouwer generations. Latter generations are recounted by descendants who lived in the latter part of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries, and the ancestors who they describe were their parents and grandparents. In addition to the original work of Bertha C. Spencer, the "re-publisher" Sharon Brewer Dodge, includes her own Brewer lineage with the incorrect claim that her ancestor, Willis Brewer of North Carolina, was a son of Jacob Brouwer (b.1709) and a grandson of Sijbrandt Brouwer & Sarah Webber of New York City (this claim has no basis in fact). There is also a short note from William B. Bogardus who questions this connection. There is no factual evidence that would tie Willis Brewer of North Carolina (late 1700s) to any of the Brouwer families of New Netherland. p.16. Hereinafter cited as Three Hundred Years in America.

- Broadalbin was part of the Sacandaga Patent of 1741. It was a part of the former town of Caughnawaga in northern Montgomery County. It was first settle about 1770. The town of Broadalbin was created from the towns of Johnstown and Mayfield in 1793, before Fulton County was formed. It is at the south end of the Great Sacandaga Lake which was created in 1930, and is actually a reservoir which was greated by the daming of the Sacandaga River. Mayfield was also a part of the Mayfield Patent of 1770. It was also a part of the original town of Caughnawaga. Mayfield was established as a town in 1793.
- Although additional evidence would be welcome, it is almost certain that the David Brouwer, baptized in 1798, son of Jacob Brouwer and Margitta Triet, is the same David who appears in Fulton County, New York in the 1800s as an adult.
