  • John Brewer. Of New York. A native of America, Brewer was residing in Dutchess County, New York before he Revolution, where he leased a farm. He entered the British lines on April 12, 1777 and took an oath of allegiance, but died soon after. Brewer's sons served in the British Army under Colonel Beverly Robinson, and settled after the war in Canada. His daughter Sally, who married a man named Tilney, also moved to Canada. His widow, Mary, claimed £254 New York as compensation for the property abandoned when they left their farm in 1777.1
