  • Francis Drake resided at Blooming Grove, Orange Co., New York.
  • He appeared on the census in 1790 at New Cornwall, Orange Co., New York, as Francis Drake, with a household of 1 male over 16, 2 males under 16, 3 females. He is enumerated next to Richard Drake.8
  • His will was dated on 14 June 1798 proved 31 July 1798. Francis Drake of Cornwall in Orange County, N.Y. Names his wife, Rebekah Drake; son Ephraim Drake; son Curtis Drake; son Rufus Drake. Half of my pew in Blooming Grove Meeting house to my 2 sons Richard Drake and Rufus Drake. Names daughter Phebe Drake. Names as executors his wife Rebekah Drake, son Rufus Drake and Anselin Helme. Witnessed by Nathaniel Howell, Jr., James Mitchell, and Francis Drake.9
  • Francis Drake has been incorrectly placed in the family of John Drake Francis Drake is claimed as a son of John Drake and Martha Oldfield in Drake Family in England and America (1896) p.294. However, no son by that name is mentioned in John Drake's Feb 6, 1779 will.
  • Imogene Lane in her manuscript, "Drakes of Orange County," includes a letter from Victor M. Drake stating that Francis Drake had daughters named Rebecca and Abigail (they would be his aunts). He states that Abigail married a William Faulkner. Neither supposed daughter is named in Francis Drake's will. No other record of them has been found.10
  • Francis Drake is claimed as a son of Francis Drake by Medora J. Corbett, English and American Drakes. However, the 1798 will of Francis Drake does not mention any son named Francis, while naming four other sons, Ephraim, Curtis, Richard and Rufus. Francis was living in 1798, and therefore it is unlikely that he is a son of Francis Drake of Blooming Grove, New York.3
  • John Drake is claimed as a son of Francis Drake by Medora J. Corbett, English and American Drakes. However, the 1798 will of Francis Drake does not mention any son named John, while naming four other sons, Ephraim, Curtis, Richard and Rufus. John would have been living in 1798, and therefore it is unlikely that he is a son of Francis Drake of Blooming Grove, New York.3
