- On 24 September 1832 "Major otherwise Elijah Drake" of Sempronius, Cayuga Co., New York filed an application for a pension based upon his service during the Revolutionary War. He states that on 1 Jan 1777 he enlisted at Stephentown, Dutchess Co., New York in the company of militia commanded by Capt. Reuben Drake under Col. Brinkerhoff. He was at Fort Independence in New York until the last of April and then marched with the company to Cortlandtown, Westchester County where they remained until July. In June 1778 he received the commission of Ensign in the company of Capt. Ebenezer Boyd, Col. Samuel Drake's Regt. and served in that capacity until appointed the company's 2nd Lieutenant in March. He states that at the time he was commonly called by the name "Major Drake," but that he now writes his name as "Elijah Drake," that his name was changed from Major to Elijah by him for his own accomidations and convenience soon after receiving his commission as 2nd Liuet.1

For three years he was in California (Toulumme Co. and Sacremento) but returned to Flint after a fire destoyed his drug store.2
