I viewed these ledger books in October 2002 at the Broome County Historical Society, 30 Front Street, Binghamton, NY 13905 (607) 772-0660. The writing for the patient accounts is all by the hand of Dr. James Brooks, covering a span of almost ten years. The genealogy page (pictured below) has two different handwritings unless his writing just changed with passing time. The ledgers are written in two different inks. Viewing both ledgers, it is obvious that the writer simply at some point refilled his ink well with a different ink. The ledgers hold accounts for his patients. The earlier dates are of one ink and the later dates are of a different ink. The portions written with a different ink on page of his ancestors are underlined on the photo below:
