When Susannah died, she was only 49 and she still had young children. Ruth would have been about 27. She must have taken over the raising of the younger children. She is probably the person who clipped out the obituary on Susannah. James married in 1848 and E. S. married in 1849. Sarah Jane married before 1850 because she is in the 1850 census for Vermillion Co., IN living with Joseph C. Cooke and her sister, Ruth. Ruth married in 1852 in Portsmouth but continued to live in Vermillion Co. Her niece, Susan Hannahs - middle daughter of James, was sent to live with her Aunt Ruth around 1858. See obituary for Susan Hannahs. Next to the gravestone for Susannah Barklow Hannahs is a stone for Ida E Barklow The obituary for her son, James M. Hannahs says "James McKoy Hannahs was born in Greenup county, Ky., December 16, 1822. His father was John Hannahs, a brick-layer and his mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Susan Barklow, a daughter of Benjamin Barklow."
