The obituary for his grandson, James M. Hannahs says "James McKoy Hannahs was born in Greenup county, Ky., December 16, 1822. His father was John Hannahs, a brick-layer and his mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Susan Barklow, a daughter of Benjamin Barklow."

On Feb 19, 1798 in Hampshire Co., VA the children of James Barkelow sold the saw mill to Joseph Briggs.  All of the heirs of James Barkelow had to agree to the sale.  Listed are: Elizabeth, the widow of Jacques Barkelow, Johnson Barkelow, Benjamin Barkelow and Ruth his wife, Sarah Barkelow, Abraham Powelson and his wife Mary, Charles Beatty and Ellender his wife, Saint L.
