The Burke and Alvord Memorial 1864 by John Alonzo Boutelle pg 92

"Historians seem to agree that Alexander and Benedict of Windsor, Conn., were brothers, and that Alexander's sister, Joan Alvord, married May 26, 1646 Ambrose Fowler.

We suppose, from what records we are in possession of, that Alexander and Benedict Alvord emigrated from the county of Somerset, England, and that Benedict after coming over and patriotically volunteering to assist in defending Connecticut colony from the Pequots, returned to England after his espoused, Joan Newton (Nurton)."
