John Adair m. 1784 Catherine Palmer (1768-1854).
John Adair (1757-1840) enlisted at the age of seventeen and fought in thirteen battles. He served as aide-de-camp to General Sumter in the partisan warfare of South Carolina, and received a pension as [p.258] major, South Carolina Line. He was born in South Carolina; died in Kentucky.

John Adair sired 11 children.
The sons were:
Dr.William Henry Palmer Adair, b. 7/9/1805, d. 1859, md. Elizabeth A. Cromwell (1830), had 3 sons and 2 daughters. Three other children died in childbirth.
The other son was John Adair, Jr., b. 8/8/1808, md. Mary Ann Dickerson in 1834. They had 8 daughters and 5 sons, was a lawyer, and died in Astoria, Oregon in 1888.

The boys were the youngest of the 11 children born to Gov. Adair.
The daughters were:
Anna P[almer]Adair, md. John L. Bridges, Esq.
Mary Adair,
Eliza P[almer]Adair, md. Thomas Bell Monroe.
Catherine P. Adair,
Margaret L. Adair,
Sarah B. Adair,
Isabella M. Adair,
Eleanor K. Adair,
Henrietta P. Adair.

I am a direct descendent of Gov. John Adair. I have wonderful records that were compiled in 1925 into a book on the Adair line. It is published today by the Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC. 1-803-859-2346. Ck the area code. I do not know if it has changed. John Adair, the son of the Gov. was born 8-8-1808. He married Mary Ann Dickerson in 1834. Had 8 daughter and three son, was a lawyer, and died in Astoria, Oregon in 1888. Gov. Adair's dauhter Eliza Palmer Adair married Thomas Bell Monroe. Linda- My Grandfather,Hugh Adair, was Lt. Gov of Montana sometime in the late 20's or early 30's. His father's name is Asa Adair.

Asa had five children..Hugh Rogers (my grandfather) William Wallace, Albert Sidney, Laura Ellen, and Ruth May.

Asa was the son of James Adair II and Jane Ann Swart from Faquier County, Virgia.... Other children of James and Sara were William, Ellen, Robert Wallace, Hugh Thomas, John Alexander, Mary Jane, James Arthur and Manelius Chapman.

Does this book make any mention of my Grandfather, Hugh Adair? He was lieutentant governor of Montana, and the Chief Justice of the Montana Supeme Court.
