The CUTTLERs of Maryborough, Qld
compiled by Mary BRETTELL

George CUTTLER

Introduction

My CUTTLER line comes from around manchester, Lancs, England and can be traced back to the birth of James CUTLER at Goosnargh, Lancs in about 1734. My particular line seems to come from alternating generations of James' and Georges down to my grandfather, Jim, who had two daughters, Margaret Mary (Rita) and Josephine Ottilie (Dot).

This family of CUTTLERs, specifically George and Sarah Ann and family, migrated to Hervey Bay (Maryborough), Queensland, Australia on the DAVID McIVOR in 1864.

Mary RAVEY,

Mary RAVEY widow of Daniel RAVEY, shoemaker,
died 12 August 1856 in sub-district Market Street, Manchester, aged 77.
(indicates would have been born c.1779)

The report below could well be the story of our own Sarah Anne’s mother Mary.……
Info sent by a fellow researcher, Alan Barnard of Canada:

On the 16th. August 1819, the Manchester Yeomanry charged a peaceful demonstration at St.Peter's fields Manchester, cutting down men, women and children with their sabres. The incident became known as "Peterloo", a
slighting reference to the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Mary Ravey, 36 yrs old of 333 Newton Land, and a mother of 4 children was among those injured.

Pauline Cohen, a paid researcher looked up the details of Mary Ravey's injuries in 1989. Her right arm was bruised by being trampled by the crowd. She was disabled for two days and received 10 shillings relief.

(This Mary RAVEY, 36 yo in 1819 would have been born c.1783)
