St. Peter, Netherseal
(Leicestershire)
Notes for Monumental Inscriptions
by Brett Payne

1.  The Burial Register (BR) for St Peter's Netherseal shows a James Ball buried on 24 September 1769.
2.  The BR shows Richard Bate to have been buried on 7 September 1787, while Mary Bate was interred on 13 March 1792.
3.  The BR shows Alice Clarke, wife of Robert, buried on 25 February 1759, while son William was buried on 24 January 1759. Their daughter Allice Clark was buried 15 November 1742.  The BR does not show any other Alice Clark(e) buried there, so it is difficult to know what to think of inscription D25.  Perhaps the answer lies in the Donisthorpe burial register?
4.  The BR shows Gilbert Clarke to have been buried on 29 December 1786. Perhaps a death date of 26 December is most likely?
5.  This should probably read "Hanmer, Flintshire".
6.  The BR shows The Revd. Charles Cooper to have been buried on 12 March 1787.
7.  The Revd. William Nigel Gresley was baptised at St Peter's Netherseal on 25 Mar 1806. The MI states that he was 49 when he died, suggesting a date of death of 3 September 1847.
8.  The BR states that Hannah Hair was buried on 4 April 1790.
9.  The BR states that Mary Harris, wife of William, was buried on 19 December 1803.
10.  The BR shows John Kettle buried on 2 March 1805.
11.  The BR shows Francis Newbold, son of John & Sarah, to have been buried on 15 November, and his mother Sarah Newbold on 21 November 1755.
12.  The BR shows Francis Newbold buried on 16 June 1792, and John Newbold, son of Francis & Mary, on 6 June 1787.
13.  The BR shows two potential John Smiths, the first buried on 31 August 1781 and the second on 27 August 1783. The former appears more likely.
14.  The BR shows Mary Smith buried on 16 April 1769, and John Smith on 7 June 1774.
15.  The BR shows Ezekiel Spare was buried on 24 March 1768.
