Parish Pages
South Derbyshire Parish Pages
The records you will find in this section of the site include those transcribed from primary sources such as parish registers, census enumerator's sheets, trade directories, poor law records, and secondary documents such as bishops' transcripts and graveyard headstone inscriptions. In addition, brief extracts from various books and miscellaneous other relevant material have been included.  These records may also be accessed by clicking on the appropriate locality link for the respective parish.  Use your browser's Back button to return to this page.

FreeCEN Project
FreeCEN Derbyshire 1891 Census Transcription Project
The aim of this project is to provide a free, on-line, searchable database of the 1891 census returns for the county of Derbyshire.  We are still looking for help with transcription, checking and validation.  All you need are a computer, a microfiche reader, and a little time to spare.  Visit the Transcription Status Page to see how you can help.

Brett Payne's Personal Family History Home Page
Acollection of links to research projects on my own extended family, many of them also from South Derbyshire.  The pages include family tree data converted to web format using GED2HTML software.

Canadian Machine Gun Corps 1916-1919 - Virtual Library
Another of my projects, devoted to the history of the 6th Brigade Canadian Machine Gun Company, later absorbed into the 2nd Battalion Canadian Machine Gun Corps, with whom my grandfather Leslie Payne served during the Great War.
TAB2HTML article
TAB2HTML : Transforming tabular or columnar data into web format
An article I wrote on request for the Society of Indexers Genealogical Group Newsletter.  It describes a method which will be of use to any reserachers who are transcribing genealogical records, particularly if they wish to publish them on the web.

If you have found the resources on this web site useful in your research, please support the maintenance of the site and the addition of new resources by using the GenDesk QueryBoard for your genealogy problems and brickwalls. Click on the image below to visit the site.

Sources & Copyright
Material has been gathered for this site from a variety of sources, which are quoted wherever possible on the pages where the data appears.  Transcripts of copyrighted material appear courtesy of the copyright holders.  All other transcripts remain the copyright of the respective transcribers.  I am responsible for most of the indexing and all of the conversion to web format, and will take responsibility for any errors.

I would like to acknowledge the valuable contributions of many people who have donated material, in the form of transcripts, images and notes,  for this site.  Without the generosity of these researchers making the fruits of their research available to others, the scope this site would be considerably reduced.  I have tried to acknowledge all of these contributions, but if I have inadvertently missed anyone out, please let me know and I'll rectify the matter as soon as I can!
