| The NOVA SCOTIAN was built
in 1858 by Wm Denny & Bros, Dumbarton for the Allan Line. She
was a 2,108 gross ton ship, clipper stem, one funnel, three masts (rigged
for sail), iron construction, single screw and a speed of 10 knots.
There was passenger accommodation for 131-1st and 328-3rd class.
Launched on 18 March 1858, she left Liverpool on 2 June1858 on her maiden
voyage to Quebec and Montreal. In 1873 she was rebuilt to 3,305 tons,
lengthened to 366.3ft, and re-engined. She resumed Liverpool - Portland
sailings on 15 January 1874 and on 7 April 1874 started her first Liverpool
- Halifax - Norfolk - Baltimore sailing. Her final sailing started
on 5 July 1892 when she left Liverpool for St John's Newfoundland, Halifax
and Baltimore and she was scrapped in 1893. [from the North Atlantic Seaway

I, Robert H. Hughes Master of the British Steam-ship Nova Scotian do solemnly, sincerely, and truly swear that the following List of Manifest, subscribed by me, and now delivered by me to the Collector of the Customs of the Collection District of New York, is a full and perfect List of all the Passengers taken on board the said vessel at Liverpool from which Port said vessel has now arrived ; and that on said List is truly designated the age, the sex, and the occupation of each of said Passengers, the part of the Vessel occupied by each during the passage, and the country to which each belongs, and also the country of which it is intended by each to become an inhabitant ; and that said List or Manifest truly sets forth the number of said Passengers who have died on said voyage, and the names and ages of those who died. Sworn to this 10 June 1891 [Signed] Robt. H. Hughes So help me God Before me List or Manifest of all the Passengers taken on board the British Steam-ship Nova Scotian whereof Robert H. Hughes is Master, from Liverpool burthen 1081 tons.
