This Baptism Card for my gg-grandfather Henry PAYNE (1842-1907)
has fortunately survived the inevitable bonfires which often accompany
the passing of each successive generation. While it doesn't indicate
the date of his baptism, used in conjunstion with Henry's Scholar's
Admission Certificate for the church school, it made searching for
the baptism very simple. I have confirmed that Henry was baptized
at St Stephen's on 12 March 1848.
I haven't seen any mention of this kind of document elsewhere,
and wonder if they were common. I would be very interested in hearing from
others who have come across them.
