My name is Cindy Johnston. I have a home page through ftw web page. I really don't
have much on the ASHWORTH name. Matter of fact there is some doubt on the name. Some
of the family believes it is ASHURST. I have my grandmothers death certificate and
it is listed as ASHWORTH. Her parents being James ASHWORTH and Elizabeth MITTON. They
were originally from England but are now in Pa.

From: Peter and Leigh Ashworth <zavata@theforum.com.auX> REMOVE "X" BEFORE SENDING

Hello. Ashworth is my married name. I have just started to trace my husband Peter's
family tree. I do not have much to go on at the moment but here is what we have so far.

John Ashworth (Peter's gg-grandfather) b 1802?? d? No other information.
William Ashworth (g-grandfather) b 1847 d? married Mary Ann Johnson in Manchester Cathedral April 27 1871.
William Ashworth (grandad) b 28/4/1874 d 3/4/1958 married Annie Bedgood 14/11/1904.
John Ashworth b 6/8/1914 married May Ruddock 16/11/1946 in Kirkstall Leeds. (Peter's dad and mum)
Peter Ashworth b 6/8/1948 Hope Hospital, Salford, lived in Hanover Square, Salford, where his
father was a fireman at Salford Fire Station, married Leigh Levick (b 25/1/53) on 1/12/1971.

Peter's dad John was born on King St in Broughton. William Ashworth(1874) was born on
Manton Rd in Barton. William Ashworth (1847)no idea where born, as I don't know where
or how to go about looking for his parents, but the address on his marriage certificate
is 298 Ordsall Lane, Salford, and his father John Ashworth is a Brickmaker on this
certificate. There is some family knowledge that William 1 & 2 owned a brick manufacturing
business in Salford, somewhere. Apart from Peter's aunt (his dad's sister) we know of
no other family decendants. William and Mary Ann could have had other children but I
haven't looked into that yet. No one went to USA to anyone's knowledge. Peter and his
parents and sister came to Australia in 1957.
Cheers
Peter & Leigh Ashworth.
Brisbane, Australia.

My name is LaVerne Markart and I am a descendant of the John (Morefield) Ashworth line --
so technically, guess I'm not an Ashworth by blood.

..John (Morefield) Ashworth died 1822 in Posey Co., IN - son of Jane and stepson of John
Ashworth who d. 1788, Pittsylvania Co., VA. Wife was supposedly Nancy Vincent and based
on 1820 IN census, she was deceased by then.
...Moses Vincent Ashworth b. 1783 in VA, died 1838 in Posey Co., IN. One of the first
Methodist circuit riding preachers in that part of the country. He married twice(1)Jincey
Muse in Pulaski Co., KY and (2)Elizabeth (Davis) Jenkins, widow of Joseph Jenkins, in TN
circa 1818.
....Thomas Vincent Ashworth b. 1810 in Pulaski Co., KY and died 1875 in Kaufman Co., TX.
Married Julia Tubb, daughter of James Tubb/Elizabeth Reynolds of DeKalb Co., TN.
.....Mary Ashworth b. 1844 DeKalb Co., TN, married Francis Turner of DeKalb Co., TN, and
died 1923 in Ellis Co. TX.

This is the last of my line with the Ashworth surname.

From: Neva Toles <Munchnt@aol.comX> REMOVE "X" BEFORE SENDING

The Ashworth's I'm searching for are:

Colon Lee Ashworth b. 07/27/1877 d. 03/17/1936
m. Sara Bertha Lee Smith b. 08/03/1899 d. 05/05/1993
children: Clara
           A. G.
           Robert E. Lee
           Eulas Orlando
           James

I'm beginning to think that Colon Ashworth had some kind of a shady past, because so the story goes
he always refused to talk about his family, as if there were something to be ashamed of there. One
thought is that perhaps he was Melungeon. A lot of times they didn't tell their children about their
background because of the stigma at that time of the mixed blood.

Charles Sherwood Ashworth Sr. was born in Dalton, Mass. c. 1889. I don't know when his family moved to
Illinois, or if he moved there as an adult, but he lived there by 1923. He married Elizabeth McAleese
(born c. 1893 in Chicago), and had 5 children: Bernice, Alice (b. 1921), Charles Sherwood Jr. (b. 1923),
Rosemary, and John William (b. 1929). Elizabeth died about 1933 and the children were placed in an
orphanage until their father married a woman named Bertha. The family moved to Rhode Island by 1940, and
Charles Sr. died in Warwick, RI about 1951.

My Ashworth line:

James Ashworth & Elizabeth Mitton
Mary Ashworth & William Patrick
Alice Patrick

My g/grandfather Wm. Patrick came to the US in 1881 at N.Y. He married Mary Ashworth 12/24/1884. I
believe she was the daughter of James Ashworth & Elizabeth Mitton but have not been able to trace the
lineage. I did find William's naturalization papers in Clearfield Co. Pa. In looking for the Ashworth
line they had an Edmund Ashworth who arrived in N.Y. 9/14/1870. I was trying to see if it was a connec-
tion to Mary Ashworth. Wm & Mary had 7 children and the 2nd child was my grandmother Alice Patrick.
Plan to go to Philipsburg to visit their graves. If you have any info on this ASHWORTH lineage it would
be appreciated and I am happy to share what I have.

Sincerely,
Shirley Oxenrider

My full name is Diana Margaret Lea. I am from England originally, but have lived in Australia for over
40 years now. I have submitted my family tree to Ancestry.com. Here are the details that I know about
my ASHWORTH ancestors.

John Smith Ashworth, Sr.(born ???) married Margaret Taylor 3Oth October, 1798
-------------------------------
John Smith Ashworth, Jr. b. 1804 in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, England married Elizabeth Anne Hayes (or
Hayse) on 4th November, 1828, St. Mary's Church, Whittlesey.
-------------------------------
George Smith Ashworth b. 1833 in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, England married Mary A. ????? b: 1832 in
St. Pauls, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. Possibly married in Rotherhithe, Surrey in 1854 (awaiting
certificate to verify this).
-------------------------------
Eliza Smith Ashworth b. 1857 in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, England married William Gardner in Stepney,
London on 14th October, 1877.

No previous records of any Ashworth's exist in Whittlesey, but it is my belief at this time that they
arrived in Whittlesey from a small town in Lincolnshire called Donnington in Holland (about 25 miles
directly north) in the late 1700's......probably looking for work draining the Fen country. This is
unproven as yet.

Diana Lea in Tropical Far North Queensland, Australia.

was born in Estevan,Saskatchewan,Canada. He has four brothers still in Sask. By the names of Barry,
