The Origin of the Ashworth Surname

The Ashworths were named after the parochial chapelry (similar to a township) 3 1/2 miles west of Rochedale in Middleton Parish in the Hundred, or Royal Manor, of Salford (also known as Salford Hundred or Salfordshire) in County Lancashire, England.

''I have a copy of the Ashworth book...The book is helpful in some ways, however, the writer displays some points of view that may or may not be correct or in harmony with other researcher's points of view. Some of the information the writer has compiled is not validated or documented. For the most part, the book has some genealogical value for the more present day generations of Trinity Co. Ashworth families. Vanda V. How to Stay In Touch

IMPORTANT! There's nothing more frustrating for a genealogist than either finding a connection with a fellow researcher only to be unable to get in touch or losing touch with one.

To avoid that frustrating experience, please, please, PLEASE do the following things so your e-mail address image will change automatically when you update your address in your RootsWeb or Ancestry.com account.

(Too bad I didn't think of this years ago, instead of trying to do it with a members' area and ImageMagick. For your sakes, I sure wish I had.) skip

  1. Give me the web address of one of your RootsWeb message board posts or your RootsWeb public profile so I can get and display your e-mail address image.
  2. Give me the web address of one of your Ancestry.com message board posts or your Ancestry.com public profile so your fellow researchers can contact you without typing your e-mail address into their e-mail program or web form.
  3. Update your e-mail address at RootsWeb, or at Ancestry.com when it changes.

You may also want to create a free account and enter your current e-mail address or, if you don't have one, your residence or phone number at Plaxo.com, an indispensable service that automatically updates your contact information in your contacts' address books and at other sites you're also a member of when you update it in your Plaxo account.

(Another web site you may want to create a free account at is an identity aggregator to manage your online identities, including your address books, bookmarks, feeds, community profiles, etc. from two or more web sites.)

If you have no other accounts online, prefer not to give your other accounts' passwords to Plaxo to import your accounts' information or have lost contact with a fellow researcher and that person doesn't have an account at RootsWeb, Ancestry.com or Plaxo, create an account at or check the following free directories or change of address services.

Then make sure you update your contact information in your account every time you move or get a new e-mail address so others can stay in touch with you.

For your sake and / or your fellow researchers', don't put it off till it's too late. Do it now. skip


Please Note:

Hiding e-mail addresses in Javascript or ASCII doesn't work anymore. So to prevent spammers from harvesting them, I hid the following researchers' e-mail addresses in two ways:

  1. I put them in images I created and will replace those images with their RootsWeb / Ancestry.com-generated ones when they have given me the web addresses to their RootsWeb and Ancestry.com message board posts or public profiles.
  2. I also put them in PHP scripts called from web forms, to allow you to click on the researchers' names to contact them.

Plus, I added each address to the alt attribute of each image for the benefit of blind researchers. It's written in the phonetic alphabet. Each phonetic word refers to a letter, number or symbol in the address.


Instructions:

  • Click on the researcher's name to send them an e-mail message from a web form.
  • Click on the researcher's e-mail address image to send them an e-mail message from your e-mail program.

I was never able to find out how to set up ImageMagick to automatically update the image of the e-mail address I have for you in my list of researchers when you update it in the members' area, so I removed the members' area.
