FIRST GENERATION
1. Michael Alanson BRENDEL was born on SEP 9 1827 in Stokes County, NC. He died on MAR 5 1902 in probably Red River, or Lamar County, TX. He was described as 5' 7" tall when mustered into Confederate Infantry. 1850 M. E. Brendel is in Forsyth County, NC census, wife Julia. They married 12 JAN 1850 in Forsyth County, NC. On FEB 1 1855, he is listed as Alason Brendle and he marries Susan Panther, (said to be the widow of David Painter, according to Barry County, MO tombstone records).
April 30, 1862 he was mustered into Confederate Infantry. States that he was born Stokes County, NC. He is 36 yrs old, a farmer. Height is 5' 7". Although he enrolled March 18, 1862, apparently is mustered at the later date. Also the 53 Regiment NC Infantry (State Troops) is described as being from Guilford County, NC.
April 1864 and July 1864: M. E. Brindle is list as Pvt in C.S. Navy. He appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War of Johnston's Army, paroled. Paroled at Grensboro (State?) on 16 MAY 1865. In April and July 1864 he is listed as being on the C.S.S. Arctic, listed as #139: M. E. Brindle, Lands.
In 1880 he and wife Susan are in Johnson County, MO living in household of daughter and son in law, James Oscar Young and Sarah Anne, town of Holden. 2 SEP 1881, Johnson County, MO, film #0959936 the following found: Pgs. 228-9
M. E. Brendel buys 1 old mower for .50 cents at the personal property sale of the estate of John Chapman, deceased, wife is Cynthis Chapman. Record of sales 1875 - 1882 Estates.
February 1900 he is a widow in Red River County, TX. Received pension for service in Co D, 53 NC Infantry and 2 years on ship "ArtiCahoy" in Navy. Papers witnessed by G. T. Brendel and Sarah A. YOUNG in 1899. Also record is in "Index to Appl. for Texas Conf. Pensions": Approved Book, Application #06220, is listed as being in Red River County, TX (Bk #1). Application for Conf. Pension in 1899. 1900 Fannin County, TX census he is at daughter Sarah A. Young and husband's household.
Also: 1900 Red River County, TX census M. E. is listed as 72, living with G. T. Brendel and wife, Sarah. M. E. is widow. Apparently listed in 2 separate 1900 censuses.

Michael Alanson Brendel is his "official" name according to the Moravian baptism records, when he was 12 years old. I have documented him as also using these names in census, marriages, pension applications; Elanson, M. E., Alanson, Michael Elanson. Also: Larry Isaacs shows Mike Michael Alanson's death date obtained from Mary Eddith Davis Brendel (wife of Charles H. "Bud" Brendel) in 1964 for a school project.

Pleasant, Barry, MO. Her grave was found by Maynard Painter. The tombstone said: "Susan wife of David Painter, Born 12 June 1825, Died 5 Jan 1898. Died with Consumption at the home of Alfred Painter, according to Cassville Republican January 13, 1898. In 1880 she was in Johnson County, MO with husband "Alanson Brendel" (M. E. Brendel), and they were in the household of James Oscar Young and his wife Sara Brendel, listed as "in-laws". In 1900 M. E. Brendel is in Texas and listed as a widower.

In 1915 George dies.

In the 1910 Census when she is married to George T. Brendle, she is listed as having had 5 children born to her. So far, we have 2 Cameron children, and 1 Sparks child, so think that probably the other 2 are Cameron's. Birthplace of her father and mother is listed as Arkansas.
3. Sarah Anne BRENDEL was born on NOV 8 1859 in Forsyth County, NC. She died on MAR 4 1924 in Grand Prairie, Dallas, TX. She was buried in Old Arlington Cemetery, Tarrant, TX. Sarah had a half brother, Albert Painter, who lived in Butterfield, MO. Per Barry County, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery records (3 miles S. of Monett, MO):

Sarah A. has no tombstone marker. Grover Brendle found it. It is just a plot of ground and is sunken a bit. It is possible that James O. is buried there as well.
She was married to James Oscar YOUNG on MAY 16 1872 in probably MO. James Oscar YOUNG was born on SEP 9 1850 in Blue, Jackson, MO. He died on JUL 17 1929 in Arlington, Tarrant, TX. He was buried in Old Arlington Cemetery, Tarrant, TX. In 1920 Texas soundex, J.O. and wife lived in Dallas County, TX, the town of Grand Prairie was written in and then crossed thru by census taker. States that he was born in Kansas. ED 105, sheet 8, line 51, grandson Fred G. YOUNG also lived in house. His Death Certificate states he is to be buried in the Arlington Cemetery.
In Tarrant County, in Arlington, is William J. Brendel, born VA, was 41 ED 158, sheet 40. He is Sarah's nephew.
In 1910 James O. and wife Sarah are in Mitchell County, TX, Prec. 2. States he was born in MO and both parents born in VA.
In 1880 J. O. and wife Sarah are in Johnson County, MO. M. E. Brendel and wife Susan live in the household also.
In 1883 J. O. and wife got a Deed of Trust in Kingville Township. This property lays right on the Johnson County and Jackson County, MO line.
On 31 MAY 1888, J. O. Young is the party of the 2nd part in a quit claim in Johnson County, Sect 11, Twn. 46, R28. States that J. O. Young is of Jackson County, MO at the above date. It was also filed at Kansas City, MO. (Jackson County).
Since his 1st child was born 22 DEC 1876 in Johnson County, he and wife were there by mid 1876. Sarah Anne BRENDEL and James Oscar YOUNG had the following children:

Brendel in 1920 Soundex TX living in Nueces County, town of Robstown, on Ave. A, is 60, wife is Matilda, 54 and daughter Loma 18 with 6 others in house, but names are not given. Leonard farmed in Quemado Valley until about 1 1/2 years before he died. He lived in Odessa, Ector, TX with his daughter Fay Elaine who was married and had family. Therefore, he did die in Odessa, but lived there because of his health. Quemado was where he spent most his adult life. He sold the farm only a short time before his death. His SS #464-90-9035.
