Jacob Boyd Attended grade school at the Saylor school house south of his father's farm in Clay Twp. LaGrange, Indiana. He went West and settled in Topeka, Kansas, where he owned and operated the BonTon Restaurant. Oct 18, 1912: Mr and Mrs. Henry E. Franke (This was Elizabeth's daughter Frances) on a trip west spent an afternoon and evening with him and his family at the restaurant in Topeka. Jacob visited his relatives in LaGrange and Noble Co. He was the clown of the children and full of fun and mischief. Jake would line up those brothers & sisters at home, they barefoot, he with right shoe and stocking and left foot barefoot; then make them follow him around saying "Pompy shoe, pompy shoe, pompy shoe," stomping with his right shoe as he went. He would stop, turn around and say to the others, "Ye barefooted divils get back in the rear and you with your pompy shoe get in front." ******************************************** Children of Jacob BOYD and Julia Saum 1. Jacob's later years.

I remember when I was a little girl, maybe 4 yrs old or so, my Grandpa (Jacob Boyd) was staying with us where we lived in St Louis, and working as a janitor in a church that was just down on the corner from where we lived. Momma (Ethel M. Boyd Warnecke) would send me down every day to tell Grandpa it was time for lunch. Looking back, I know that he knew it was lunch time every day.   He would be waiting in the church basement for my call. But I never went into the building and down the stairs. Instead I went to a little window and pushed it open and yelled at him that it was lunch time. He would always jump like I had surprised him with that news!! That would give me much delight.
Other times, at the dinner table, if something were to be put on my plate that I didn't necessarily like, Grandpa would turn his head and pretend like he didn't see me put part of my food into his plate.
Other times, my older brother and sister, Everette and Hilda, would play hide and seek with Grandpa. We always hid in the same place every time. He would go thru the house for 5 or 10 minutes pretending to look for us. Then when he finally "found" us we just squealed with the fun of it all. We never got tired of that game and neither did Grandpa.
These stories were related to Beverly I. (Warnecke) Bond by her aunt Anna-Roy (Warnecke) Bixler during a recent visit. (3-24-01)   Jacob lived with the Warnecke family after his wife died in 1923 until he passed away in 1926
