Clement Engle was confirmed in 1767, according to Reformed Church Register Book 2, pages 9 & 10, Frederick, Md.
According to tradition, Clement Engle was brought by his parents from Germany to America about 1751 when he was four years old. He settled in Pennsylvania in 1775.
Sept. 26, 1775 Bedford County Deed Book A. page 240, he is cited in deed for purhase of land in Brothers Valley He says he is "late of Frederick, Md., married first to Elizabeth Graff, married 2nd to Margaret Weimer; and 18 children (had 19) This land was purchased from John Rice on Simhler's Mill Run and not the land on which he eventurally settled.
Clement Engle warrant & Survey-- Warrant #37, Bedford Co. for 200 acres "adjoining Maust and Solomon Clothfelt in Brothers valley Twp.Bedford Co. @ 10 pounds per 100 acres, dated 19 Feb 1785, returned 17 May 1810.
Survey book C, vol 60, pg 75: "Situated on both sides of Piney Run, including his improvements in Brothers Valley twp., Bedford Co. and surveyed the 26 of April, 1786 in pursuance of a warrant dated 19 Feb. 1785. He got 336 1/2 acres, (well over the 200 acres asked for in his warrant) called _________(left blank, but in Patent called "Union".) bounded by neighbors John Markleys claim, Solomon Cladfelty, vacant land, Jacob Most, Chev & Wilcox, Esq. and Martin Cook's claim.; returned 17 May 1810.
Bureau of Land Records, P. O Box 155, Harrisburg, Pa. 17120. Edward D. Price, Director; located room 123, South Office Bldg., Patent: Clemens Engle in Patent Book H-4, pg 76, received 336 acres called "UNION", Brothers Valley twp., Somerset o., Pa dated May 1810. This is the land on which he eventually settled.

Clement Engle served in the Bedford Co., Pennsylvania Militia during the Revolutionary War.
