FamilySearch.org is THE main web site for genealogical research into records held by the Church of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) or Mormons.
http://www.familysearch.org/
NOTE: This is a very important web site and all genealogists should be familiar with its contents and resources.
1. The SEARCH tab gives access to several databases including:
      International Genealogical Index or IGI
US Social Security Death Index (SSDI)
      Pedigree Resource File
Also under the SEARCH tab are many helpful articles under the Research Guidance and Research Helps subtabs. These are usually in PDF fromat, so you will need Adobe’s Acrobat Reader to read them. The Web Sites subtab can lead to other useful sites.
2. The LIBRARY tab has subtabs for the Family History Libray, or FHL, the largest repository of genealogical material in the US. Another subtab can help you to locate the nearest Family History Center, or FHC. These are usually located wherever the Mormons have a well-established stake or ward. FHCs are manned by volunteers and usually contain much local material as well as material on loan from the FHL. Non-Mormons can go to any FHC and request material from the FHL in Salt Lake City. Finally, the complete Family History Library Catalogue can be searched to find out what’s available.
