There were Bowles in Monmouthshire from the 1300's and Bowles in Pembrokeshire from the 1400's.

Walter Bowles, a gardener from Tipperary, is listed in the 1841 Census as living at Pentre Ucha, Gwespyr townland, Flintshire, Wales.  However, he soon returned to Ireland.  The house may still exist today as a Flintshire County Councillor is currently listed as living at Pentre Ucha, Gwespyr CH8 9LW.
