I'm not sure who was the first Bowles of the Chatham, Kent line to settle in Surrey but it seems to have been Charles Bowles, who had inherited an interest in the Bowles Glass Works at Ratcliffe, London in 1784.  Land deeds refer to him as "of Ratcliffe (St. Dunstan Stepney)" from 1782 until 1789 but a 1792 deed refers to him as "of East Sheen, Surrey".  ref.  Charles was appointed the High Sheriff of co. Surrey in 1794 but died the next year before his one year term of service was complete.  He was succeeded by his son, Humphrey Bowles.  Humphrey also inherited Abney Manor in Derbyshire and was The Lord of the Manor there but he is also on record as the owner of  The Grange, Woking, Surrey in the 1841 Tithe while the occupant of The Grange is given as Charles Bradshaw Bowles, Vicar of Woking.
