Richard Boles was granted land at Ballynalty, co. Cork by letters patent dated 15 January 1666:
"In the Gt. plowland of Moyge called Kilbreedy and in Ballinlawbeg plowland 233a0r0p. Also in the same plowland in Balinalty and in Ballinlawbeg 63a1r0p. Also in Ballinalty and in Ballinlawbeg 55a0r30p etc"
Moyge is about 2 miles NE of Liscarroll, co. Cork and both Kilbreedy and Ballynalty were very close to Moyge.
He most probably obtained the lands for services rendered to the Crown; there is an entry in the State Papers of Ireland which suggests he was active in the rebellion in 1642 (Report on the Manuscripts of the Earl of Egmont Vol I pp. 27; 253) and he was certainly active in support of Cromwell's occupation of Cork city in 1649.
