Robert Boles, son of John Boles and Grace Woods of Fethard, co. Tipperary, Ireland (see The Bowles of co. Tipperary) came to Canada in 1824 with his wife and 5 children and settled at Boylston, Guysborough co., Nova Scotia.  One more child, Charles, was born in Canada in 1826.  Their are no Boles descendants of this line in the area today as their sons either had no children (Robert) or moved on to Massachusetts (Charles).

David Bowles and family came from Ireland and settled first near Robert Boles where he married Mary Strople in 1829.  In the 1838 census they were still living near Robert but later they settled at Alder River, Intervale twp., Guysborough county which is only about 10  miles from Boylston.
