In the 1871 census they all appear as Boal. In 1881 both
generations are recorded as Boles. In 1891 as Bole.
Since they started in Canadian
records as Boulds which is phonetically close to Bowles, there may
be a connection back in Ireland to the Boles/Bowles there.
