~~~~~
The only John Gillock living in 1810 according to my records is My Line John Gillock b. 1778, VA , all his children were b. Orange Co., VA. but he did get his father's land grant so?? possibly it was in KY that needs to be checked out. (By me later)
WE have a problem here as Samuel Gillock adult is not listed, The John listed here is not old enough to be SAmuel pretending to be John as Samuel did for brother John's Rev War Pension. (See the book pages 1 -26 ).
DESPITE statements to the contrary... no Gillock served in the REV WAR except JOHN (I)... none were old enough to... Samuel tried to claim John I's record of service as his, but was found out...and John I's only son John II actually got his father's claim.
now to transcribe the listings for these men:
Name: Thomas Gillock, Township: St Anns, County: Albemarle, State: Virginia
Transcribed from census:
one male under 10, none 10-15, one 16-25, none 25 -44, none 45 or up (NOTE HERE: WIERD WHERE IS THOMAS THE FATHER? He should be listed as male 46 or up, also need to find his two sons different census for better ages.)
no females under 10, one 10- 15, one 16 - 25, one 26 - 44, one 45 or up. (Who are these females??as he has none listed
Comment 2009- Thomas moved to ILL where children were born. ao this isn't the same Thomas.
my file for Thomas: (NOTE : I have always questioned his only having 2 children listed, eaisly fits a son in at 1788, but for son Robert being born in ILL? did he go to ILL then return to KY then return to VA for the 1810 census??and Thomas's birth?? NOTE I always thought this thomas was the one in IN b. 1788... but we know he isn't from dates.. i just had never checked...)
Look at the children of Thomas b. 1764 and compare.
Subject: [SCKY] BARREN CO - EARLY SETTLERS OF SKAGGS CREEK CONTINUED
Continuation of the Tolle history published in Backroads of Barren Co. Written in 1921 for this portion.
"In the early settling of the country, Lawrence GILLOCK, a Revolutionary War soldier came to Barren County and took up, or got in possession of, a large body of land otherwise, south of the creek, which extended from the well known as the Charlie RAY farm on the road leading from Glasgow to Roseville to the farm formerly owned by Andrew NUCKOLS, just below the RITTER Mill. The land extended far towards Roseville; and included the old Johnny ADAMS place on the right of the road beyond the RAY farm. Mr. GILLOCK was said to be one of seven brothers, all of whom was in the Revolutionary War. He raised a family of four children; three girls and one boy. One of his girls married Charly RAY; one married John ADAMS and one a BAKER. Of the BAKER woman, I have no knowledge of any descendants. William, one son married and raised a family of children who lived and died in the vicinity of Roseville; James, George, Simeon and Albert were sons of William, he also raised several daughters. James never married. "Rev. W G W GILLOCK as a son of William GILLOCK, and a noted Baptist preacher. He probably was instrumental in the conversion of many persons as any person in the county; and the building up of the Baptist church, in his day and time. He was twice married and raised a family of four or five children; one girl and three or four boys, all of whom are dead except one son, William, of Glasgow. William was a valiant soldier of the Orphan Brigade in the Confederate Army during the Civil War of 18681-1865. At this writing, 1921, he is living in Glasgow, KY and looking after the interest of some lumber firm. He is aging considerably and the ravages of time show heavily upon his features. Since the above was written I have ascertained that William GILLOCK Sr above mentioned, raised one son named Lawrence, who was next to the oldest son. Another boy by the name of Robert. Two of his daughters married; one married a DEVINE and one married Bedford LOWERY, who was the father of Melvin and Lawrence LOWERY, two highly respected citizens of the Roseville country." to be continued next week.
